  • posted a message on Differences between LoL and DotA 2

I promised a mate I would make him a video on all the differences between League and DotA 2. Because of people picking out tiny differences for almost a solid month I ended up just rushing this video out because it was taking too long.

So video quality isn't up to the standard I would like but sharing for this interested anyway

I've written and produced quite a bit of material on this, but I want to summarise my final thoughts on Rengars viability as well as talk about recent uses of him by Gambit Gaming and his presence in the Chinese LCS.

First however I want to answer any questions people have on Rengar before I breakdown GG and the OGN.

    Whats in the video:
His passive and ultimate mean you can directly land onto a target, but have little method of escape. You either kill your target near instantly or be tanky and stick onto them so you can tank their damage. Rengar used to do both, but only has one ability dedicated to damage so it makes sense to aim to balance him as a tanky dps champion because he wasn't made to be an assassin.

Heals on a tanky and manaless champion is a bad design choice and the ferocity system is toxic with its doublecasting. Doublecasting needs to be removed and the heal CD looked at further.

Rengar should have his resource system changed to either ferocity with shared ability CDs, fury, mana or have Thrill of the Hunt give his empowered abilities - again sharing CDs.

If this is put in place then each ability will need a buff regardless because of the removal of doublecasting. Q needs more damage and a lower CD, his W should maybe give a passive amount of armour and mr, his E should have a longer duraton and added effect.

My first post on this topic before I made the vid - http://www.reignofgaming.net/forums/strategy/champions-and-gameplay/31282-rengar-my-thoughts-after-reading-the-article-the

All reasoning for the above is in the video, and if you simply come in to say 'But SotD makes Rengar an assassin he was obviously meant that way' then please don't bother leaving a comment

Thank you for your excellent work. Tanky assasins are what have broken LoL since Irelia patch.

You should post it on GD forum so Rioters can read it too.

    Tried, was heartlessly ignored

So I was unhappy with what I wrote here

So I made this long video to greater illustrate my point, and also so my friends would stop arguing with me about it

Shaco - EVERY SHACO EVER is a dick

Irelia - Its astounding how many jackasses play this champion

    Teemo - No comment.

Akali - Doesn't matter what Akali always seems to generate rage machines

Evelyn - So many rager kids on Evelyn its not even funny

Surprisingly, never had many other ragers. No bad Rengars or Dianas or Darius'

    Occasional Brand and Garen though

    Top tier laners

Hyper carries (Late game monsters, low utility, farm or kill their lane and kill everything late game. Popular in solo queue but don't add much to the team)
    Akali, Jax, Irelia, Nidalee

Teamfighters (Strong laners who don't win every matchup but their teamfighting ability means its not a big deal if they win or lose)
    Malphite, Wukong, Rumble, Vlad

Utility laners (Their utility or part of their kit that makes them worth picking)
    Jayce, Shen, Cho'Gath

Shutdown laners (They have one job. Shut down the other top laner)
    Renekton, Elise, Garen, Darius

I say they want rengar to be a get in assassin who tanks up to run out.

    An assassin who tanks.
That shouldn't be allowed to be a thing.
Lee Sin can do this but he has outrageous positioning and skillshots to do to make it work, Jarvan can do this but it sacrifices how tanky he is and requires him to land a skillshot and use all his abilities as well as precise positioning. Both these champions need good positioning and farm to be able to assassinate someone AND be tanky.
Rengar however has a perfect gapcloser and stealth.
He can't be allowed to be a tanky assassin. Because otherwise it breaks the game. Right now we are seeing Akali destroying Solo Queue because people have realised getting a warmogs on her is insane since warmogs is so effective right now and her shroud increases her defensive stats.
Tanky assassins in general are bad, and not only provide little counterplay if they are effective, provide little counterplay if they are ineffective. An assassin either succeeds at killing his target at the cost of being squishy or fails and gets crushed quickly.
A tanky assassin doesn't need to kill straight away because they can then just stick on the target.
Tanky assassins are bad for the game and as long as Rengar has ferocity and SotD is in the game, Rengar cannot be balanced in that way.

Overall no double casting from ferocity and no reliable W means rengar would be even weaker than he is now. His Q and E would need to be OUTRAGEOUS just to compensate for the losses.

Exactly. Rengar has a weak kit unless he has his double cast.
Thats why I want his kit buffed AND have extra benefits added, at the cost of removing ferocity.
This idea of double casting to do any damage at all and spamming W to win lanes is dumb, and doesn't make the game any fun.

Slapping a tiny ARP bonus to Q seems silly its just going well ARP is pretty hot right now lets slap that on.

It does a little, except base armrpen is not common. Sure %armrpen is on everything, but base armrpen isn't.
Heck make it so that using Savagery on an opponent lowers his armour by the same value.
Remove the armrpen bonus and have it so that successfully hitting Savagery increases his AD for a small time.
Just increasing the AS buff a bit isn't enough.

Agreed with the analysis overall, but he seemed more like an assassin to me on release, just IMO.

Thats the thing, his kit did too much. He could assassinate someone instantly but the rest of his kit was designed around making him tanky and good for chasing people down.

A tanky, burst assassin with sustained damage, stealth and a perfect gapcloser?
Thats why he has to be one or another. And too much of his kit is about being tanky. Only 1 spell is ACTUALLY about burst.
Also the idea to make him more focused on being a bruiser champion like Olaf is because then him and Kha'Zki are completely different. Their interaction stays but the playstyles vary wildly
