    Actually I'd advise against this. Even as first pick, wait for others to call their role first and then fill. If you don't trust your team mates when they play their best roles, then what makes you think that they'll perform any better playing a different role. Someone wrote here once RoG, which I think is very relevant, call orders should be listened to, they are basically roles that people will feed the least in. That's a very important thing.


    Riot said pick order>call order . I will stick with that. We are not going to turn champ selection into a typing competition. Go play blind pick if you need that thrill. For all i know, i am not going to trust my game to 4 random strangers over the internet unless they show to be somewhat competent and are willing to stop whining for whatever reason and play the game. But i guess if they could do that, they wouldn't be in bronze now, would they?

    Usually Sheen to Lich Bane is his core along with Mp pen boots. After that i think the builds vary. You can go abyssal,rabadons or zhonyas etc. A more defensive route could be RoA to Lich Bane but only if you are losing the lane. As for strategies you pretty much harass with w+q and get out with you E and then shark them and go all in at lvl 6 either killing them or nearly killing them. AFter that you just roam around and kill other lanes and pressure people. THat's the short version of the basics of him i think.

    Well i am the one that edited the wiki. So i will give my insight of that. Lets say you pick the yellow card. AFter you use it or the duration ends the internal timer starts changing again in the rotating order. Example. Pick yellow card. Timer stops. Auto attack/yellow card buff ends-> TImer starts. Internal timer state: Blue Red Gold Blue Red Gold Blue Red Gold etc, skill on cd. Pick a card , starting card : internal timer state. If you have a question about it, let me know.

    now onto the main topic: How good do you think dota is as a learning/good practices tool?

    I recently started playing dota 2 (only vs bots, i have no clue what the heroes do, or what the items are, and I'm still trying to learn all those basics), and I noticed that just by that I improved a bit on some aspects on league:

    -since there's no button to lock the camera on you, I'm starting to lose that terrible habit (I didn't walk around with locked camera, but whenever I had to fight I'd find myself pressing the spacebar through the entire thing)

    -since sometimes you need to micro some units, i gained much more map awareness, since I have to control more than one character (even though I avoid heroes which have skills that involve controlling multiple units, I don't think I'm ready for that yet, sometimes I grab a illusion rune and I'm forced to somewhat micro 2 more units)

    -since there are no range indicators on the skills, I gained the habit of not relying on it to cast, and just blindly try to do it, eventually leads to faster casts. even though sometimes I miss due to the fact that I don't know the range, eventually when I get used to it i think it's much more fluid and I'm considering moving from smartcast with range indicators to smartcast without them

     

    Did any of you had any similar experiences? If so, what else did you learn/practiced/improved from playing dota?

    Isn't it the other way around? Also if you get to level 30 with locked camera and not accustomed to using F1 or spacebar that's just bad habits on your part. It isn't LoL's fault. Also i don't like many of the hurdle's of Dota's UI and its defenders. People were arguing that having the timer next to summoned units name instead of it being available only through clicking the unit, decreased the amount of "skill" required. The same has been said about people asking for mana bars on everyone, because clicking on an enemy to see his mana instead of having it available below his health bar supposedly requires more skill. Heck, at the early development when valve said that heroes would have health bars, there was an uproar. Also the lack of spell range indicators is just inexcusable. It pretty much makes the entry point to the game higher because you have to play like one month or so just to know what 100 yards is in map range. A game shouldn't be hard because you make the player wrestle against the UI and because you make information that is available anyways harder to get/understand. It should be hard because it involves actual decision making, a skill that differs between newbies and advanced players. Now don't get me wrong. Dota 2 involves a lot of actual decision making but at the same time haves you wrestle with the UI and hides information for you that is readily available anyways(ie an enemy hero's mana). For all its merits(which are a lot actually and i think it can have a nice place in the MOBA market) the main problem with Dota 2 is that it tries so hard to cater to the original hardcore playerbase that it is pretty much the same game that was 10 years ago with better graphichs. I mean think about it. The original Dota was limited by its engine. Now we have a new engine and people want to force the old engine's limitations upon the new one and everything to stay the same. And that's pretty sad because the original didn't try to remain stale and actually kept evolving over time. But now people just want it to stay the same forgetting how it got up to this point in the first place : through experimentation,effort,originality and novelty.
