Jarvan, sure. Vi? Lee and Shaco are way scarier than her.

Vi's CC is trickily situational depending on the CC you have to counter it, while Jarvan's, Lee's, and Shaco's initiations are all pretty much free. Vi's damage is also conditional on her CC, while Lee's and Shaco's is not (and if you miss Jarvan's CC consistently you probably just suck or are playing against Faker).

Sure, post-6, Vi is scary as ass, but pre-6 the worst she's doing is blowing a flash if your team wards up. There's a reason J4 is the best competitive jungler in the game and Vi is a non-entity

I will just play. If people keep sucking and it gets me to master then thats fine, if not i dont give a shit. Setting goals in a video game unless you make money out of it, is kinda weird TBH

There's nothing weird about it- It allows you to focus and improve faster.

Just playing and drifting through games is weird to me, but people have their own opinions.

Why would you play games to improve instead of just having fun. The winrate will be 50/50 anyway. It is not like street soccer where you will be known for being very good. It's just a meaningless game with thousands randoms who don't give a shit about anyone.

For me, it's a metaphor for life. I don't do anything that I don't want to continue to improve at. The point at which I stop caring about how I do in League of Legends is the point at which I stop playing a lot. Given that League of Legends is my job, I'm always working to better myself, but even when it wasn't true, it's how I thought.

     I haven't seen you in forever :C

I lurk around here, but to be honest, the community has changed too much, and every post here is just PBE notes anyway. I was going to do more farewell posts when I left last January, but the  Reign of Gaming administration didn't want me too, sooooo... Whatever happened to those big changes they promised were coming just around the corner, with fan-written articles and such?

I'm at lolesports now though, and if you want to see a list of my posts there, I've got them here.

I keep seeing people in this thread saying that it's not about the skill required to play against him, it's about not wanting to play safely for 10 minutes.

Game knowledge about how to play with/against certain champions is the fundamental skill of League of Legends, and willpower and attentiveness in executing those strategies are part of skill at League of Legends. Get over it. If you want a game with no macro level decision-making and only mechanical outplays and mind-games, you can play [whatever game I put here will offend somebody].

You play more passively in lane against Lee Sin, just play even more passively against Shaco. Or even easier, just ward their fucking camps; smart players do that against regular junglers anyway.

You can't play Nasus, go aggro at level 1, and then say "mechanically I played better wah-wah it's unfair they can 1v1 me at lvl 1 no matter what I do".

You can't play Renekton vs Nasus, not go aggro until level 11, and then say "mechanically I played better wah-wah it's unfair they can farm until lvl 11 and then automatically win".

Different champions are different and it feels to me like the new players to this game whe haven't been playing since Seasons 1 & 2 want everything to be about mechanical outplays. If they want that, go play a fighting game.

This site used to be full of smart people who wanted to discuss the game intellectually, but now every blue moon I come here, I just find myself embarrassed that people still recognize me as a part of the community.

The tank's job is to ensure that it is easier for his carries to do damage than theirs. Sometimes they do that by soaking damage so that the damage dealt by their carries is less effective thanks to resistances. Sometimes they do that by CCing anybody trying to hurt their carries so that they need take fewer breaks from doing damage, and can hit juicier targets thanks to their safety. Sometimes they do that by CCing the enemy carries and preventing their damage.

the main value of the taunt is *not* the movement of targets. It is the cessation of damage. In fact, except Rammus, no champion has a taunt long enough to *move* a champion.

Do you think a tank who's only CC is silence abilities would be adequate for the role and would you consider playing such a tank?

I want to say I agree that stopping damage is good because before she was nerfed and reworked, Soraka's E could stop a lot of fights before they started.  It didn't do a lot of damage, but when people got silenced, they tended to back off from trading.  Even if they could trade back with AA, they tended to avoid it if you started the trade.

No. The primary damage dealers in LoL tend to be AD Carries, and a silence does not do enough to reduce their damage.

Cho is the closest, and he has a knockup as well.

It does depend, to an extent, on the nature of the silence though. Imagine a tank that could activate a kind of Equinox aura similar in size and shape to a Maokai ultimate. He could initiate in a way that would negate the enemy's ability to flash or use escape spells, whilst also shutting down counterinitiate.

Granted it would have to be very short duration since that would be pretty broken. And in my head it also silences the caster as well, so they can ONLY initiate and not burst until it wears off. Still, it's theoretically viable if you had a secondary frontliner to dive in for the actual CC either prior to or immediately after (top Jax/J4/Gnar for example).

But yeah, in general a tank's job is to dive the squishy, and a lot of the time that's the ADC. Sometimes the APC, particularly in midgame or if they're badly positioned, but mostly the ADC.

In my opinion, that sounds much more like two champions acting like a tank in tandem (given that you have a top J4 or Gnar, both of whom toe the line between tank, off-tank, and bruiser). Suddenly I'm thinking of Searle's Chinese Room.

I would disagree. I'd say the cessation of damage is secondary to the value of NOT moving, i.e. holding a target in a fixed position for your team to close (or, of course, dragging them closer in the case of Skarner or Rammus).

It's a question of mitigation versus initiation, granted, but realistically the only champions in the game in which a few seconds of CC are going to impact on overall teamfight damage are a) ADCs, and b) the ones that get blown up during the CC because your team was allowed to close.

That is fair as well. The cessation of movement is also important. What I meant to highlight is the fact that the target has to follow you is not a big deal.

Knockups and Stuns are just as good as taunts, and Skarner drags targets closer far better than Rammus does.

I find it quite funny that everybody thinks a tank has to have a taunt. After all, what is a stun but a taunt with 100% damage reduction?
