Just wanted to start a discussion on who is currently one of my favourite and most played champions - Varus. I tend to find myself in the AD carry role often in my ranked games and nine times out of ten I'll pick Varus. I feel really comfortable with him and usually do well. At the moment I'm climbing Silver 1 steadily and hope to be going for promotion to Gold in the next few days. I usually run standard armour pen/armour/magic res per level/attack damage runes, and standard 21/9/0 masteries. I start boots 3 pots and try to pick up attack speed asap. I usually end up getting greaves and a doran's blade then having 2 daggers for a while before I rush into Blade of the Ruined King. I just find he benefits from attack speed much more than other ad carries since it lets you get 3 quick autoattacks off followed by a quick E for tons of damage. I find that 90% of the time I will kill the opposite ad carry in a 1 on 1 without a problem. During teamfights I love playing him since it's not a bad thing if the enemy tank or bruisers try to zone me since I can often kill them without a problem with my %health damage. Often in a fight if they're bunched up together it's pretty much guaranteed I get a few kills since the burst damage from his autos and spells is immense...
... which brings me to asking if anyone has had any success with alternative item builds on him? I played with a guy a few months ago who insisted on getting Hurricane for the split autoattacks, so he could quickly build up his W on 3 enemies bunched up and burst them down. He also used to get a malady and similar on-hit items. Has anyone had any success with anything like this? I'm not talking about the AP Varus build I've seen some people try... I just mean a slightly different AD carry build tailored to his kit. Hurricane on paper seems like it'd be really good, but obviously if they're not bunched up then it's wasted.
Also looking for general tips to improve. I usually get W first for the easier last-hitting and the harass. I tend to alternate between skilling into W and E depending on how things are going, but I've seen different people max either so I guess that's up for debate? I usually rush Blade and then Phantom Dancer, next getting IE or LW depending on the game and enemy builds.
