One thing should be put into account: AD carries role is always the same, so you can do a good job with the same items of a different adc. AP carries champs instead have completely different roles so you need to get specific build to fullfill your role in tf.
Think about teamfight role of an AP carry of your choise.
Is it the same role Twisted Fate has? Is it the same role Orianna has? Is it the same role Karthus has? Is it the same role Kassadin has?
I bet you did not answer yes to all these answer.
