Saying that there are no insulting words is ridiculous. Especially when you say that they always exist in context - that's not true. Words often exist without context or in an unclear context (e.g. graffiti where there is no context, online text where there is limited/unclear context due to lack of prosodic and visual cues etc. - very relevant here). If I type one word randomly in a game, there's no context - if it's an insulting word though, somebody is much more likely to be offended and report me for it than if it were a neutral word.

Whether or not the individual words are "anti-female" was actually the topic here... so yes, it did matter. That's what we were discussing. Any player can be called a 'retard' but, if a player reveals their gender to be female, they're open themselves up to a load of "anti-female" insults which wouldn't have been directed at them if they didn't reveal their gender.

But you're right, gender equality is irrelevant! What a trivial matter! Let's focus on real problems like how to balance Oracle's Elixir or what to build on Jayce!!

The thing with words is, there are no words that are anti-female (or anti-black, anti-semitic, anti-homosexual or anti-whatever for that matter). Words themselves are not offensive or insulting - the person who uses them can make them so.

This just isn't true. An insulting word can be used in a friendly or otherwise non-insulting way, sure, but if you removed all context from words (e.g. just wrote them out on a piece of paper), some would still be classified as insults by the vast majority of people. Similarly, many words, including insults, will be associated more with one gender than the other. There ARE differences in insults thrown at men and women (for example see http://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/BF00287626, a study into this topic where insults like 'slut', 'whore' and 'bitch' were very often used towards women but not towards men). It's a fact. I really don't understand why you're trying to say that it isn't.

...so my views on insults and their significance may be kind of different than the average American and whatnot.

    I live in England.

Again, though, it doesn't really matter what your views on insults are. It matters what society as a whole thinks - and I think Gustaf has got that part right (mostly - I don't agree with absolutely everything he's saying).

"Bitch" does not have an anti-female meaning...

And "whore", along with its many variations, does not have an anti-female meaning either...

Well no, it doesn't have an anti-female meaning if you make up your own meaning for the term in your post!

If you actually look at how it's used in society ('bitch' is definitely not always used to mean 'worthless whiner') and how the words have developed though, you'll see that Gustaf is right. I'm actually surprised that people are trying to argue that bitch/whore are not "anti-female"...

    Quote from qucangel »

Whore is only female based because you think of it that way.

More like because society thinks of it that way - which is the problem Gustaf is trying to highlight.

Regardless of the meaning of each term (and debating that is pretty silly when you're all using different definitions which are clearly all not what the terms universally mean), both words are typically used against women and do have meanings that relate to females - so much so that the term 'man-whore' is sometimes used when referring to men rather than the not-so-gender-neutral 'whore'. If you can't see that this is the case, then I can only wonder what kind of secluded bubble you live in.

I think Riot has done an amazing job.  I am not bashing them what-so-ever. I don't feel they "only" care about money. That was the spin RuindLoL gave my message via his responses that I was trying to counter act.

Actually, that was supposed to be me saying that - I think that Riot's primary concern is money. It's a business, businesses exist to make money. I wasn't trying to suggest you said it. I think Riot does care most about money, but I think that's what they should care most about and I don't understand why anyone acts like it's surprising or bad.

    Quote from samuelrodriguez »

By the way, I appreciate the slight change in the tone of your response. I think you SHOULD make a video. If it isn't directly attacking me, and is well stated (foreseeable to be better stated than mine, considering) I may even be willing to have it as a video response to my video.

That was actually sarcasm - I have no intention to make a video. Sorry to disappoint you.

If account security really is such a big issue at the moment (and I can't say that I think it is - as far as I know I don't know anyone who has been hacked) then I'm sure Riot will work on a solution. But I don't see how a video like this helps at all. If you're saying the skin thing and other bits were just jokes, then the whole video pretty much just says "we need more security for our accounts" and I really don't see what the point of the video is.

I recommend Renekton. He's one of my favourite champions and he fits your criteria. He can score kills easily in lane and snowball, deals a lot of damage in teamfights because of his AoE and armour shred, and can definitely carry games (more so early- to mid-game than late-game). I find him very fun to play because he's mobile, can make plays and turn around ganks.

Your McDonalds analogy is off. I am not leaving my belongings in McDonald's parking lot, as well as, paying for their product.

Uh, you'd be leaving your car there... and paying for their food...

    Quote from samuelrodriguez »

You make it sound like I bashed them. I didn't. I simply stated that I feel like they need to put emphasis and effort into making their services more secure for their consumers. I then said that I think they should step it up.

"Blizzard has them, just sayin'" "more more more moar mas more security"  "Like, come on, get yourself together" "Riot, get your stuff in gear" "Come on Riot, really? Really?"

If that's not "bashing" then I don't know what is. You didn't simply state that you think they need to put emphasis and effort into security. If you did that your video would have been 5 seconds long (if you even bothered to make a video) and I wouldn't have even bothered posting here.

    Quote from samuelrodriguez »

I am glad that you are on some sort of internet crusade in your spare time.

Maybe I should make a video about it!

    Quote from samuelrodriguez »

I feel they need to step it up. I don't think that makes me ignorant.

I didn't say that you're ignorant. I said that you don't know what you're talking about. I concluded this from the part where you talk about new skins and champions in a video about account security. Those two things have absolutely nothing to do with each other.

    Quote from samuelrodriguez »

Outside of trying to call me out and failing, as well as, insulting me directly I am pretty sure that if you pursue this conversation with your current heading you will just sound like more of an aggressive keyboard warrior.  Once again, thank you for your input. Unless you have something pertinent to add, that will be all.

    lol this bit was funny.

If you care so much about receiving negative feedback, why did you make this video? You admit that it wasn't good, that you rushed it whilst not being in the best state after your holiday, or whatever. Why didn't you wait, and make a more reasonable video? Maybe do a bit of research? If you want people to take you seriously, at least take your own videos seriously.

    @RuindLoL
Wherein, I can see where you are coming from, maybe next time you try to be a bit more respectful. The crack about the new skins was just a side comment on how their emphasis IS on making money via some poorly thought out skins versus trying to keep consumers happy by making their accounts secure.

I get bored of people whining at Riot when they don't know what they're talking about. Maybe try to be a bit more respectful towards Riot instead of making silly "omg riot u suck!!" videos. Of course their emphasis is on making money. That's what the company is about. When you go to McDonalds do you complain at them for creating new fast food items instead of building a fence around their carpark to make it more secure?

I'm not sure why people feel that Riot should come running whenever they find something to cry about. If you don't like the company or have issues with their practices or the game, just don't play it. Personally I think Riot does a great job.
