Hmm new mogs is out i guess. My problem is that shoes/guise didn't seem strong enough early when compared to last season. Perhaps forgoing the second pen option as rush in favor of the new dfg would be smart. I'm looking to avoid the new GA since it is much more inconvenient to build and more expensive.

    Perhaps shoes->DFG->staff->DCap->zhonyas->g.a.

    Few things so far.

I found that when getting guise as I used to I end up feeling really lack luster. That's why I was getting the void staff. Its only 800 more gold after all AND its something I'm going to need late game that ill be fortunate enough to have early. As far as not having enough damage to "be kat" (essentially get those CD resets). The resets work on assist too so if I'm able to survive the melee for two rounds of cd's THEN get the reset chain I'll be devastating. On the other hand, having that health ensures that if I go in to clean up, Im not squishy enough to kill 1-2 and let the others live. I could be wrong though.  Thanks for the help thus far.

Hey everyone I mainly play Kat and feel like a fish out of water after playing my first few games in season 3. First of all I don't know if 9/21/0 masteries are the way to go still or if 21/9/0 is better now. Second, due to the changes in penetration I'm not sure what to build.

S2 build: boots 3 pots/Sorc Shoes/Guise/D-cap/GA/ Void staff replaces Guise Rest was up for grabs. Usually would get zhonya's or warmogs then the other.

So here's my proposition for a S3 build. I by no means feel that it is good. I'm just offering a reference point for my thoughts here.

S3 build: boots 3 pots/Sorc Shoes (W/ eventual home guard enchant)/Void staff/DFG then 3 of the following based on circumstance: (D-cap/Zhonya's/Warmog/Ab scepter)

My reasoning for various items---> Shoes/staff for efficient penetration off the bat. It replaces the shoes/guise. New DFG is perfect for burst and gives me the damage that a D-cap would've in the past. Not to mention the CDR. D-cap is d-cap so no comment. Zhonya's for defense and active. Warmog's since I find health to be more of a boon on kat than plain ol mr. And scepter is also self-explanatory.

Again, I'm looking for well thought-out advice on how to build kat in season 3 not to tell people "hey guys look what I'm building-isn't it cool?"

    Thanks! :)

Actually Katarina's carrying potential doesn't come from late game teamfights (it's obvious that ryze and karthus are going to shine there) but by pushing the lane and heavily roaming, usually in bottom lane. Late game you need your teammates to deal damage and focus the correct targets so you can get the resets, but if you made sure your adc is fed he just needs to right click and you'll win the teamfights.

This. I said games not team-fights. A bunch of 2-3 person skirmishes are easy to handle and if you win all of them then you're going to be in really good shape. If you see your jungler going bottom try and push your lane and go with him. A 4v2 or 4v3 (in case of their jungle's presence) is not only a lot easier to manage than a 3v2/3v3 but its more gold for you.

Hi I main Kat and can generally carry games for my team-if you're looking to do the same OP then continue reading :)

First, use this: <http://www.solomid.net/guides.php?g=33940-tuoooor-katarina-build-guide> as a reference point for learning about kat in general. This guide gave me a better foundation than any single forum post could.

My in-game name is Downies Drink Me. Add me, and spectate a game where I play as kat. That would be the best way to learn how to play her, watching, not reading. (I'd recommend you watch a pro if you can find one, I'm nowhere near that level. If you can't I'm here to help anyway)

Man, learn katarina. I used to hate her a ton-even post rework. Friends forced me into buying and playing her. Here are some pros and cons:

    Pros:

    Easy to learn

Handles smoothly (you don't feel like you aren't in control of what you're doing)

Can do SIGNIFICANT damage with magic pen alone

Highly Mobile (thus a great tower diver)

    Cons:

If you don't snowball, it can be hard to 100-0 someone alone (without an active)

You will be focused just for playing Kat

    Poor ratios excluding her ult

Weakish early game if you don't harass well

If you feel like giving her a go I'd be more than happy to help you learn her, my in game name is "Downies Drink Me."
