  • posted a message on Gangplank Penta

This subforum is dead so I thought I'd try to inspire people to post a little bit.  Here's a video of a 4v5 gangplank penta that I got yesterday (3rd penta in 300ish games)

Also this game was played on my Gangplank only smurf that has gone from Silver V (after placements) to Silver I (~40 LP) in 60 ranked games.

As far as news goes, I'm actually surprised that Reign of Gaming is usually the first on posting patch notes and announcements, and it's actually NOT surprising that other sites have been stepping it up.  As far as I know, our news team consists of a European university student (gekkos) and a guy who works on news for multiple games (molster), while our main news competitor has a guy who actually looks at riot posts and patches for his full time job, plus other employees on his staff.

I agree with Gustaf in the thought that I don't agree with PBE changes being posted every day.  While a ton of people come here for notes, our core audience is here for forums and articles and I hate seeing long lists of patch notes clogging up the homepage.  I might be a special exception though, since I don't follow the competitive scene, don't play to the meta, hate fanart and LoL YouTube videos, and don't care about PBE. That being said, our top priority is to get news out as soon as possible, even if it means some articles don't get as much exposure as we want.

There once was this scrub jungler without Summoner Smite who took ignite, then invaded Trundle. Trundle found him,and then he grabbed his club and scored first-blood. He then yelled, "NEVER PLAY FIORA" This was personal, because of fiora's summoner name was "Play Fiora Forever". He then grabbed a doran's blade and smacked Nasus' and he falls into a big pile of POOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. The poo actually was surged heimerdinger, who took out a fed Akali and then he became great necrophile. Yorick was unamused, Karthus was amused. Karthus then pressed F instead R, but he forgot

Do people really need incentives to play well? I find it hard to believe that anybody hits silver or above and then decides 'eh, I want to play this game, but I don't really care if I win or lose'

Noncaring person checking in.  I literally don't care if I win games anymore as long as I have fun screwing around during the laning phase.  Every game is just another game.  In the grand scheme of things, it's just the latest out of hundreds or thousands of games you've played.   I only enjoy the 1v1 or 2v2 nature of League of Legends, and I honestly couldn't care less about fights or the game after I exit the laning phase.

  • posted a message on A few personal thoughts from VVinrar, part two

About 8 months ago, I wrote this note (http://www.facebook.com/notes/vvinrar/a-short-rant-why-does-nobody-in-league-of-legends-know-who-vvinrar-is/427485603961564) on my Facebook page, and got some varying responses on my thoughts. I thought I'd update you guys today a little bit since I have some time on my hands (snow = no meetings today!) on how my life has changed between then and now.

Sometimes, I doubt my motives. 8 months ago, this was a hobby. A hobby that I felt overshadowed in, where I felt unappreciated for the amount of work I put in. Not much has changed between then and now. What differentiates me from me and everyone else? Every tells me "good job, thanks for the analysis" but if I read comments for another blogger I see, "oh my god, XXX just brought the second coming of LoL Jesus in this post, you're the best!" It's been a constant source of irritation for me, but I've learnt to deal with it.

That being said, persevering with article writing has paid dividends for me. Since that last Facebook note, working at Curse has been a source of personal pride. My family, and even random people at school, somehow found out about me even though I've never talked about it. I've been featured in Forbes. I've recieved full-time job offers, sans-interview, from multiple competitive firms (sadly, no good offers in finance) that are leaders in their industries. Seriously, even Riot wants to give me presents (http://i.imgur.com/snenrw0.png). You can't beat that.

What once was a hobby that I spent a couple of free hours on has turned into an actual job. While it would be incorrect to say that I don't care anymore (I do), I don't particularly give a f* if nobody likes my final product. I take far too much comment abuse to care about the negative comments anymore. But the greater issue I have is time. I'm running out of time.

I'm at a crossroads in my life right now. I'm in my last full semester of college, and I'll practically be done with it by the time May rolls around. I'll have a bachelor's by the time I'm 20, and if I choose I'll even have a Master's in my field by age 21. This may sound like a dream life to you, but it's extremely stressful. Throughout my entire life, both personally, I've been forced to grow up before I've been ready. I've gone through 90% of my life being a couple years younger than my peers, and it's been a hell of a ride keeping up emotionally.

Even in League, it's been the same. One day I was just another guy who knew more about items than most other people, the next day I have a fan in every other game. It's hard to put on a legitimate game face when you know that you might take flak outside of the game if you rage at somebody the wrong way. I haven't even enjoyed playing League for a year. I just do it because I have to. If I wasn't writing articles, I wouldn't even be gaming at all in real life. There are too many other things in the real world that I'm interested in.

While a year ago blogging was a hobby I spent a few hours on every week or so, just like playing League, it's now something I have to manage. I don't have much free time anymore. I have to balance my real life obligations -- being a social butterfly and all that, plus job hunting, plus one of the most intensive courseloads I've ever had -- with putting out articles.

I'm a f-ing perfectionist. Doing things right, not just doing them, is what matters to me. When I first started blogging, I would spend more time changing the order of words in my articles than actually writing them. Nothing gets published unless I'm 100% happy with my charts, until it is perfect enough to read. When I first started, 2 tables and a 750 word writeup was common. Nowadays, you'd be hard pressed to find anything less than 1500 words. The evolving standard of quality is weighing down on me, and it's hella stressful.

How long will I continue writing? I can barely find time to write my normal blogs, let alone my Elo Hell (vvinrar.tumblr.com) blog. But if there are three dates that I were thinking as possibilities to stop, permanently. At the end of April, I'll have been working at Reign of Gaming for a full year, and my school semester will end. Second, at the end of the summer, when my current contract with Curse is up and possibly when I enter the workforce full-time. And lastly, at the end of the year, when I completely finish with university and 100% will be working full time. Or I might go on forever, who knows. I certainly don't. The world is mine, but seizing the day is a lot harder than you might think.

If you get a laptop make sure it's strong enough to go dual screen -- I want to kill my laptop every Wednesday (blog writing day) when I'm doing work that takes a lot of alt-tabbing since I don't have an extra monitor anymore.  A second screen is also good for browsing the internet while you're in champ select :D

I also play with everything on lowest settings, the cartoony models of LoL generally don't help out gameplay that much.
