As detailed by Lyte in the thread, QP didn't get banned for breaking the meta, he got banned for being a dick about it. It's one thing to say in select "Hey guys, I'd like to jungle Mordekaiser, I've tried it in normals and had some success" and "LOL IM JUNGLE MORD DEAL WITH IT PUSSY".

He seemed to have too much of the 2nd attitude and not enough of the first.

Enforcing the meta is extreme...for certain definitions of "meta". Not the definition this article uses.

let's say there's a 50% chance you get your desired role if you're top or mid. If a typical game lasts 20-30 mins, it takes, on average, 10-15 mins + queue time to get your role. Wouldn't you be happier with a 5 min queue, getting your role every time than spending half of your games playing a role you don't want?

What Dig did IS following the meta according to this article. What you and your team do is up to you and your team, but don't expect buy-in on stuff like that in soloqueue

Especially since "Meta" here seems to mean nothing more than "1 player per gold stream, plus one who relies on ambient gold", or "2 solo lanes, a duo lane and a jungler"

MMOs aren't nearly as bad, because you can't (for example) be a healer or a tank if you're a Mage in WoW, but changes in the meta in LoL can change a champion's "accepted" roles overnight.

Essentially, if they did anything to limit the champ pool based on selected role, people would (rightly) be up in arms about them stifling innovation / enforcing the meta, but if they don't, there's nothing to prevent someone from queuing as support, then demanding a different role.
