So here's what I get out of some of the previous replies: We don't value education/reason/valid discussion and -instead- chose to attack the thread starter. Good job. No one decided to look at other options such as lower-elo changes for the team etc. Honestly people, you aren't even responding to arguments anymore you're just spouting off insults and fallacies left and right! This forum is great for game discussion but not policy discussion.

We can thank you for the other golden thread material of VI UNDER-SEXUALIZED?. I'm sure there was plenty of response to that one.
5 pages+ worth of glorious material. :3 This thread is already at 2.
So, all these logical fallacies tossed around and only the dude with the Dr. Pepper thing picture can provide a valid argument in terms of the manpower for tickets. That is a glitch here, yeah, but customer service is the market they're in here. Find a way. I'm sure growing the business should encompass some form of appeasing the players no? One flow chart: You got proof? -> Unbanned kthx. Your proof is not viable? -> kcool stay banned. You can outsource this very simple matter too, or just hire a larger support team. Customer Service should be the #1 priority, don't YOU want to see even more spectacular customer service from Riot?

Instant bans for a leave, 99% the DCs I see are uncontrollable circumstance I haven't seen a rage quit in over a year it's been a month since I've seen some one leave without reason and not come back.
Where are you getting this statistic? Don't toss out numbers, just talk without trying to play stats unless you can show me.
He says 99% of DCs (keyword incoming) >> I << see, he is only talking about what he sees...
And to be fair that really is the case...
The Leaver buster system punishes repeat offences... Where the person in question doesnt have a connection that can consistently support lol... or when he actually is a dick rage quitter...
Its not just BAN, cuz a dudes wife got into labor prematurely or the electricity shut down or what ever
Also... Aphromoos words of Wisdom
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D61zfM63v60I enjoy the video because it's aphromoo, but having that mentality in ranked comes with the position he's in anyway. He has the option to completely carry a 4v5 and do so well. I always love their mentality on matters like this but face it - they're the pros. Their in a position where: Their entire team can rally a 4v5 and they themselves can varry 1v5 anyway. It's not a blanket statement right?

D/C's are an uncontrollable circumstance, but again don't play if you haven't tested yet.
So let's assume you spent 20 min playing a test match. The chance the D/C will occur is still there since it's UNCONTROLLABLE. The tree outside won't stop falling just because you played for 20+ min.
As in real life, it's generally better to leave some bad guys free than to punish innocent people, with which I completely agree. You lost a game because of D/C? It happens to everyone in ranked and you'll have a lot of free ELO games just because your opponent D/Ced.
Then you did everything you could and you take it up with support? Proof is easy to find since a tree fell on your powerline or whatever right? Besides if you d/c normally -without insert natural disaster or freak occurance that is akin to fallacious reasoning through probability- you come back into the game and you don't get punished. Good job you.
In real life we like to think innocents don't get pushed through the system. It happens all the time. Ever heard the idea of breaking a few eggs? This applies HEAVILY in real life. Before we had the provisions for Death Row we had numerous innocents executed, and this was modern day stuff. Countless people are arrested/detained/put in jail/go to prison for something they don't do. That's how our system works, it's not a fairy-tail world even I've been a victim. You deal with it because: A. You're not privy to how it actually plays out. B. For the amount of bad people it does catch it seems like a fair trade.

+1 for Aphromoo tho. Thanks for the bump.

We have LeaverBuster. We have reports for AFK/leaves. We have systems in place to deal with it.
Those systems work fine, in my opinion. Shit happens, and it has an equal (actually slightly greater than equal) chance to happen to either team. You even say 'these systems should do X and Y' as though you're entirely informed as to how these systems work and what they do.
Stop raging about it. Stop trying to throw out unjustifiably exaggerated punishments to appease your anger. Just get over it, move on, and play another game.
I said we do. It needs a longer ban/harsher punishment.
These systems seem to still keep people mad rather than show they are taking care of the problem. It's not really 'working' when we have constant leavers still and everyone still gets pissed according to the community. That logic is fallacious through probability and trying to appeal to my sense of stats without numbers to back it up is a terrible way to do things. What about the matchmaking system shows us that this logic is actually true without basic probability involved since the system isn't run on basic probability?
No thanks. It's a problem and I'd like to discuss it, and still no one hasn't tossed out an argument for the opposite end that isn't based on strange situations or basic probability that doesn't apply to a matchmaking system like ELO.

Take myself for example, trees don't knock out my power, computer doesn't crash, everything running smooth, my ping looks quite good, BUT, sometimes i just lose connection for quite a long time and there's no sign of it. My computer is still connected to the router, but there's just no internet connection, tried reset it and it still remains that way so i believe it's ISP problem. By the time i get the connection back, the game will probably be over. So are you gonna ban me for ISP-end problem ? Or i should go work with support since other ppl that got banned aren't so smart to come up with such reason ?
Talk to your ISP about your issues then brah, you're the few eggs if you don't take the steps necessary to protect yourself/exert your rights in the face of the law dude. If everything's 'perfect on your end' then everything should be running smoothly. I didn't even touch ranked before I did benchmarks and asked my ISP about previous issues with extraneous d/cs and they fixed it for me: go figure.

Lossing less Elo for a leaver has been brought up before the fear is that this will create a situation were the weakest link is bullied into leaving resulting in a leave for him which is bannable just so the other 4 can preserve a little bit of E-peen.
Instant bans for a leave, 99% the DCs I see are uncontrollable circumstance I haven't seen a rage quit in over a year it's been a month since I've seen some one leave without reason and not come back. Your going to ban people for uncontrollable circumstance? Punishment seeks to change behavior, a tree knock out my power isn't a behavior.
So you lost a ranked game, you've already lost a number of them so it hardly ruins your record, play another and move on, this is very much an "I am so angry right now I must vent online" kind of thread.
It has been addressed, but it should be brought back into the light for discussion. If the weakest link is bullied into it and they know the repercussions they just... wont do it. Who wants to risk a ban to appease internet bullies when they can just report them afterward for harassment?
Where are you getting this statistic? Don't toss out numbers, just talk without trying to play stats unless you can show me: then that would be really helpful. D/C's are an uncontrollable circumstance, but again don't play if you haven't tested yet. If a tree knocked out your power and you couldn't come back into the game work it out with support because I'm pretty sure they can be reasonable if you can provide the evidence. What elo are you at? Higher up there are less leavers/ragequitters as its been seen, but that's mainly a community observation rather than a quantifiable value.
Hardly ruins my record? In placements? This is where the highest elo changes are occuring. I improved my game and shouldn't have been hindered by a leaver. I almost carried this game, but the scaling was too much for me to handle. Yes I am angry, yes I am venting, but also this issue is terribly devastating in ranked.

I see. So push them out of lane asap with lots of poke? Would you forego CS for more poke if you can do it? I'll try to go down to my mid more, that's something I have been neglecting. Again though, when I try to coordinate it takes forever to get the team to react to the setup and by then the other team is privy to it. Tips on coordinating?
I do really like Jayce, I've studied him alot and his poke/damage buffs are really amazing; but, again I ask, would you focus more on poke or CS? Would you let 1 or 2 CS go for more poke on the enemy if you can? I never had problems with trading or poking but it seems like I'm not putting enough pressure on the enemy.
Its a balancing act in general you have to see what your creeps are doing and know which one is going to die first and prepare around it, you also have to know the enemys minions so you can poke and maintain CS, In general it is better to sacrifice the 1 CS to poke and out trade because think of it this way if you lose 10 CS but force the enemy to back or zone him hes going to be substantially lower HP than you is being zoned from experince and from CS so in the long run its better for you. As i figured you are a Jayce player and he is among the most annoying to lane against I personally dont play Jayce but I know his potential and I would say you arent coming anywhere close to it. No offense
I took the advice of the thread and used his poking aspects to completely dominate my first ranked win. Lots of poke, lots of teleganks, lots of zoning.
Quote from Errylander »
As for trying to coordinate things with your mid lane just go ping it and hope for the best if nothing comes of it you applied pressure and you can steal his wraiths than head back to your lane with little cost
I did exactly that. I would ping bot and explain my telegank and TP to a ward and bash faces in then walk right up to mid and assist the kill. It was a beautiful game, I fed all my lanes since our jungler was being slightly inactive. I did the same in my second game afterward but we had a leaver and I couldn't carry hard enough afterward. It really hurt, because the setup was exactly like my last game and we were doing so well. The enemy team apologized and told us that they would have lost if it wasn't for the leaver. They seemed really down about the crappy win too.

I am exaggerating on the perma-ban part, but it should be an instant long-term ban to leave a game and never return during the game to the finish. Now, scenarios where this is a case of the server problems (such as earlier today) are fine, but during ranked it should be 100% unacceptable to leave a game and not finish it/return to it to finish it. Also, it shouldn't negatively impact the team so much if their teammate doesn't come back to finish the game. I would even say you should get less or no ELO penalty for the loss because it's asinine to expect someone to win a 4v5 consistently and every single time in a game where, frankly, the community centered around it needs to be babysat to win.
I got some amazing advice from the forum after a terrible lose streak and I was pumped. I won my first ranked game after a 6 win streak in normals and I went right back into it feeling confident. We started up, but one member wasn't particularly fond of being mid but didn't say "I'll feed gg you lose" or whatever. We started up, everyone's dominating their lanes, and right at around the time our Jungler died to a buff (he was having issues with lag) our mid just left. No words, nothing. We played out a 50 minute game only to have the dam break because we simply had no teammates to do it. I took early objectives, dragon, towers, we tried our damndest, but as the game went on longer we only got more and more out scaled. This is a problem, and honestly I never realized how bad leaving a game was till I saw it in ranked. In normal mode it's an annoyance, but in ranked it's extremely devastating. I'm a new player with 5 losses in ranked and 1 win, and having a leaver like this just isn't good for morale or my chances of carrying a team, and trust me I tried. So, tell me again why leaving -during a ranked game in particular- isn't an instantly bannable offence if the person does not return to finish the game? Before you announce the obvious counter-points, let me do it:
What if it's due to internet connection issues?
You shouldn't be playing in a server you aren't accustomed to unless your internet can handle it. Make sure you don't play during storms or unfavorable conditions for your connection. Don't play if your connection isn't suitable to play the game anyway. .Be sure to test it in normals/bots to make sure you don't d/c.Well you're less probable to have a leaver on your team if you don't d/c etc...
This shouldn't be an issue to begin with. Ban the leavers. There is an automated system for this already.
The bans need to be longer in order to target the problem before it happens as an agent of deterrence for this automated system. There should also be a perma-ban set in place after a certain number of leaves. -

I looked up for your profile and you only have 116 wins.
It's a lot better to start ranked games after playing a few hundred more normal games.
That will just give you more experience and knowledge on different champs, their abilites, whether you can win trades, etc,.
Simple solution; Get more experience in normal games, and you'll eventually become good enough to dominate your lane in ranked games (:
Sorry that I can't give you detailed help on your matches because I don't main top. :/
I've been told, but as I said I have little time to play now and am trying to maximize experience in ranked with my time as I have lots of school/work/gym/life in general. I find it better to play in ranked as opposed to normals now since the matchmaking change. Seems to have dropped the level of play since they started making it matchmaking by wins or something. Maybe it's a placebo effect, who knows.

I do have a complain about the information.
You neglected to tell us your lane, which I assume is top....but wasn't in one game? We don't always know your lane mate, or enemy composition's here.
As the top lane is the far away lane, you've not much tools to help the other lanes early in the match. Focus on enabling your jungler as well as winning your lane.
Things such as heading into the enemy jungle with your Jungler to steal a Buff or grab a kill. Warding said jungle or river's so you're able to control the enemy jungler. Even if you're losing farm compared to your opponent, as long as you're shutting down the jungler, without losing anything in your lane. you're solid. Winning top lane isn't good enough, you have to take pressure of your team. Preventing the enemy jungler by getting Ganked, or Ganking him will help that bot lane.
Or, obtain tools that allow you to directly support them. Shen, Teleport, or Rengar (who can roam or counter-roam with his ultimate).
Right sorry. I was playing top lane all games besides the first. I will include that in my next reports.
I see. So roaming to steal buffs is a good thing provided I can actually steal them with good time. As Jayce this isn't really a hard thing to do. Should I ping my jungler to come help me get a buff or a camp if he fails a gank/gets my opponent to go back? I'll start roaming to mid more often, this seems to be a common theme I'm seeing here. Along with teleport this should help a lot.

Both. As you get better you'll find you won't sacrifice much CS to maintain poke. The guy you are against needs to keep his CS up as well and as Jayce you can be in ranged mode and punish them whenever they go in to farm (taking into account you're against a melee top).
There's a decent time frame between most last hits where instead of just dancing back an forth you will be able to continuously chip away at their health with your laser bullets. Once they learn their lesson and start to sacrifice their farm in order to not take hits it's another learning curve on what to do with the lane as they'll be calling for ganks and you'll need to be prepared to react.
I see. So even if I were a melee champ would I want to go in for harass during the CS-wait-time? Say with Riven or Irelia? I already ward heavily so the ganking/camping wont be too much of an issue. I would want that actually, that would help the other lanes.
Quote from st1zzo »
Taking early tower? It depends. If you can't take advantage of it, it's not worth. I mean: tower "reset" minion waves, and if you take one down, you have to push furher in the enemy territory to farm. Wich doesn't matter at all if you have your core items, can roam and help other lane, but on the contrary..
I prefer to CS over poking, but it depends on the situation of course. As Jayce you are facilitated in this.. you are ranged, so If the enemy close in to CS, you can poke freerly. Don't miss too much CS tought, it's the same as in Bot lane, if you ever played there.
I see. So take the tower when you have a more core build. Would probably be around Tear/Brut(or B.F) for Jayce. Sounds good. Right, Jayce can do this easily, but what about with melee champs? Yeah bot lane is pretty intense - I might try ADC-ing next game to test the waters because of the problems I've been having though.
Quote from Dyslexicon »
When it comes to top lane, the most important things you can do to help your team are the following
1. Play aggressive if you can afford to properly ward/know that mid isn't heading top and the jungler is on the other side of the map. Make sure that if you're being aggressive that you already have the advantage.
2. Roam mid, invade the enemy jungle, ping for your team if they're about to get ganked.
3. Freeze the creep wave near your tower if you want to help out your jungler or mid, if you're freezing your lane you should be zoning your opponent from the minions, or setting up a gank on your opponent with mid/jungle, otherwise you aren't making use of actually freezing the lane, and you'd be better off just resetting the wave back to the center.
4. Know your role for the team. Are you going to be the tanky initiator, the assassin, or the bruiser? Build accordingly. In most scenarios you'll be building tank items, or bruiser items, assassin roles are much better for mid, though you can get away with it top under specific circumstances.
5. Never put your self at risk for CS if it means taking too much damage, or extending without a ward.
6. Whenever your opponent is going back to base, or shows up anywhere else on the map, pushpushpushpush. The more creeps their tower kills the less gold/xp they will get. This is why you don't see high ELO teams take towers super early. Thanks a lot for this. It kind narrows down the thoughts in my head. I'm thinking too much about things probably.
