  • posted a message on About Aatrox..........

doesnt his taunt fit in with his lore how he popped up before an army with their backs against the wall "the Protectorate army found themselves outnumbered, exhausted, and poorly equipped. They braced for inevitable defeat"? it seemed to mee that they would have been turned to mincemeat without aatrox, and did you remember the section where their rage pretty much carried them trough the entire counter-campaign "Aatrox vanished after that battle, but the Protectorate army's newfound fury did not. Their surprising triumph led to many more until they were able to finally return home victorious"? to me the taunt sounded like aatrox's general's speech, rallying those men "With but a few words, he urged the soldiers to fight to the last". also, there is a hint of irony in int if you think about the lore: you will be remembered as a hero, while you actually ended up as a monster. because this is what aatrox sees: he can turn any man into a hero, by making him a monster "Over time, their memories of battle faded, only to be replaced with a grim revelation: their acts of heroism were, in fact, brutal atrocities committed by their own hands.". and he sees that the people dont care, because this monster gives them victory "Their countrymen hailed them as heroes". this victory is remembered. faliure isnt: there are no statues for dead cowards. al his lines fit in with the  theme of the general enticing men to be monsters, for example "pain is temporary, victory is forever". he is basically giving you an excuse to go all-in in the fight. which fits in the lore "he urged the soldiers to fight to the last before throwing himself into battle"

aatrox is the living of symbol of the price of war: victory will cost you your humanity. if someone imagined a character based on the movie "apocalypse now", his personality would look very much like this

he isnt an illogical character. he is the most epic character to be joining the league since xerath personality wise IMO, and even exceeds him

    epic

if you make a clone (revenant) of an ally with yoricks ult, the lol wiki states that the clone applies on hit effects. but when i tried it on Vi her clone did not independently apply denting blows. so to what on hits does it apply? just innate ones like warwicks passive? items? and does anyone know how it interacts with activated on hit effect? for example if i would clone kog'maw while his W steroid is active, does the clone posses the extra range of W and the %health damage, or would i just get a "plain" kog'maw?

when i reread the last paragraph it reminded me a bit of a research about "understanding fallacy". in the research they asked people simple questions like "do you know how a zipper works?" or "how does a lock work". the majority of the people asked said yes. but when the researchers asked them to explain it, people started to get stuck, and began to realize that in fact they did not understand it. they became more nuanced and carefull when the researchers asked more questions

a follow up research was done with the same trick, but swapping out the simple tools for political policies. once again the majority stated that they have a clear understanding of how set policy would work out. and again they failed to explain in properly. but the big thing here was that once the 2nd and 3d policy was presented, people took more time to think them trough, and showed a clearer understanding of the policies, aswell as admitting more openly when they did not understand. subjects even donatedless money to extreme political orginisations after the researchers visited them again after a month!

so what point im a tryng to get accros? well, people may have been affected by "understanding fallacy". so perhaps to replicate the entire result above, lol players should have a bit more reflection on their thoughts. try to explain your ideas to yourself out loud, and you might see that you get stuck, and improve your thoughts on the subject

  • posted a message on 3v33 TT Ranked - FIrst time

hi tempi, i played quite some 3v3, i am bronze 4 but got gold 5 (and going!) with some silver 4 dudes. the point im trying to get acrosss is that there are a few trick you can pull of, and be hugely succesfull. i usually runs "standerdized comps", which we follow rigidly and exploit. ive bolded the champions i play within these, so i can give you some indepth on those.

proof of my 3v3 team standings (and solo que incompetence, but lets just forget that really): http://www.lolking.net/summoner/euw/21000820

tryndamere top - nunu jungle - morgana bot.

throw all the buffs on tryndamere. start channeling. thats it! do you know whats scarier then a tryndamere with a bloodboil? thats right: a tryndamere with bloodboil AND morganas CC immunity. meanwhile youve got big scary ults with nunu and morgana, so its often to much to handle for them. TIP; wait till the camps come up with tryndamere and get full bloodlust: you can start of the lane very nasty like that. if you make nunu open with bloodboil at lvl1 youre just icing on the cake

xin zhao top - blitzcrank top - kayle/mordekaiser bot.

top lane is now essentially most laners worst nightmare: if you get caught -> youre dead. the kayle or mordekaiser pick depends on the enemies. sometimes they have targets who you just  would love to clone, AA champs often. if they just go all tank get kayle. general idea: grab 1 person and kill them in a crazy cc lock. camp brushes and all that. you get the picture. a good opening strategy is to sit in the spiders lair at lvl 1 with the team. often a top laner will hug that wall to prevent a grab from the bush, so they think their "playing it safe". ironic isnt it?

AP nidalee top - ezreal bot - nunu bot.

this is what i call a "hinge pick": if you have nunu, but their team becomes very unfriendly for the tryndamere pick, you can use this. usually good disengage spells spell doom for tryndamere-nunu-morgana, but with this comp their disengage is just helping you. the idea of this comp is to trap the map with nidallee, splitpush both lanes and run away if they try to engage. both nidalee aswell as nunu ezreal should be able to make some distance and meanwhile chunk them effectively with their abilities. blue build ezreal advised. if you do get initiated on, nunu bloodboil + ezreal innate stroids from his passive + nidalee buff gives you around 175% attack speed, which can let you really put out some hurt. also very nice to get towers with after an ace.

on the subject of hinge picks: if your second pick, you can go with the second team. kayle is often a very safe bet.

general tip: if you kill someone, go for their altar! if youre ahead, youre gonna have to stay ahead, and this is a great way to do so

a lot of people will say "just pick singed and win". my philosophy is that after a while you will get people whom are plain better at it (im assuming your not gold+, if you are, diana and singed and rumble are the way to go). but who wants skill when you can cheese youre opponents so hard that you make the worldwide production of the stuff look tiny. and do you know whats more rewarding then winning from a platinum player and 2 golds (happened a couple of times)? making them say g*y comp in all chat when they copied the local tier list in champ select (happened once)

good luck and in the twisted cheeseline summoner!

edit: skype is king. get skype. love skype. makes life easier. and makes me chuckle when teammates threaten to stab oneanother with scissors (their brothers so its okay :P)

  • posted a message on Match Making Needs Fixed [Ranked] - Message To Riot

Excellent post, well written. Im a piece of trash lol player so i feel pretty comfy down here at bronze IV. Anyways, the problem you present seems te bentrue for many friends of me, and riot should fix it. Perhaps an alternative solution would be to force matchmaking to make pairs of equal strength (20 mmr bandwidth or something) who will be facing of, and then match other pairs for hypothetical fair matchups

Tldr praise and confetti for the post

  • posted a message on suggestion for solving matchmaking problems with normals and solo/duo que

so i have heard a lot of hassle going on about matchmaking, and specifically how roles are divided. the main problem for riot to setup "matchmaking by role" was that it would solidify meta. so, how do we get around al this? i would like to propose a champion-centered "job-market". how does it work?

    feature 1: making a resume

this should take no more then 5 minutes to do. in your resume you can list

    1) which champion you would like to play this particular game

    2) which champions you like to play often

    3) your mmr/division/etc,

    4) which champions you would like on your team

    5) a separate space where you can fill some personal preferences (like saying, "hey, i want to play xin zhao, but i want to do so mid!" or "im very fond of having leona support" or "i want to pick amumu for a strong AOE team")

step 1 to 4 are based on champions, so riot could implement a simple click-and-drag system for quickly costumizing your resume. you could make a list of resumes, like with masteries, to suit you everytime you matchmake, or want to do something wildly different.

ofcourse, non are required, although division might play some importance in ranked. for example, if you are a dedicated ezreal main, you could fillin that you only want to play ezreal and leave everything blank. but once again, when play ranked, enemy picks and bans could make things difficult

on top of this i would like to have the option to show amount of bans or warnings the player has recieved. if you want to opt for discretion, noone will know, but if you have a clean slate you can show everyone looking at your resume that you are a nice player. i would limit it to showing bans or warnings, as reports are such a fickle thing. i would really like this particular option, but it think it is somewhat controversial. being banned is punishment already, and not getting in games after that by not showing a clean slate (lets face it, you would only use the hide option to hide bans and warnings) would be icing on the cake

    feature 2: bands and leaders

in this section, you get your own lobby, where you search the resume-market for potential teammates. if you found someone you liked, you could send someone a "terms-of-work" message, very much like the resume but for the bandleaders point of view. the message will show the following to the reciever:

    1) what champion you would want them to play (this could be their direct champion, step 1 from the resume section, or an aligned champion, step 2 in the resume section, or something radically else but what you thinks lies in the line of expectations of what they play)

    2) which champions are already in your band

    3) which of the champions you are still looking for (in order to match step 4 of the resume section as closely as possible)

    4) band leader mmr

    5) average mmr (bandwidth) the band leader is strifing for in his band (and thus give the asked player an idea of he will be on the better or the worse half on the team)

    6) personal note (for example "i like ezreal, but strictly as an AD carry, do you play him like this often").

on top of al this the invitee would have the options "accept", "decline" and "chat". this last option could be usefull for going trough some details (for example, if you are being recruted for blitzcrank support and want to invade, this would be the time to check of your bandleader knows how to pull it of)

ofcourse people looking for bands dont have to sit idly by! they could themselves look for potential bands and their information (the list listed above) and offer themselves for the vacant spot.

    3: general information

when you are in a band, you can see all the resumes of your allies

for searching bands and people looking for bands, you could add keywords in your search based on personal notes. this could mean that a band leader who wants to have a splitpushing top can filter out all the AP nidallees by searching for the term "AD". meanwhile, an AP nidallee player looking for a band could search the term "poke comp" to get on a team that suits his/her playstyle.

for people whom are looking for bands with a friend, there would be a "linked-resume", in which a you could only ask both simultaneously. both players would have accept, and both players would be put in chat with the bandleader if one of them presses "chat". for offering a linked resume the same rules apply: player A could request player B to offer their resume to a particular band. player B will receive a notification with the band information showing, the options "accept", "decline", "chat with group" (which would only be with the members of your linked resume) and "chat", which would include the bandleader and all your friends.

for ranked, the system could impose a number of restrictions. im still unsure what those would be, but a have a few ideas

    1) set a restriction on how far bandleader division could deviate from the average band mmr the bandleader wants at step 5 of the bands and leader section

    2) enforce the average mmr for applications set by a bandleader (within certain ranges)

    3) limit linked resume size to 2 (size 5 would not be neccesary as teams and soloque operate within different matchmaking sections)

    4: pros and cons

i will sum up the advantages of the proposed system, followed by some of its disadvantages i expect

    pros

    - matchmaking will become more tailored to even the most complex of your wishes like allies or prefered way of fighting

    - you can likely play the champion you want (allowing for some nifty combinations no doubt!)

    - you can still set a "role" in your personal notes: everyone knows what te expect, but riot will not have to enforce a meta

    - you can make sure that your team has a leader (bandleader)

    - (optional) if the "clean-slate" system would be implemented, you can control to some degree the toxicity of your team

    - give players the feeling that they are control over the matchmaking

    - you can play multiple matches in a row with your band

    - bands could be based on language, making the game more friendly for non-english speakers

    cons

    - making multiple resumes could be somewhat time-consuming

    - if you want something entirely different, you are going to need to make a resume (not necciserilt, but i expect well done resumes to attract attention quicker: saving time on the resume could cost you time with matchmaking)

    - it takes longer to get a band together and going

    - bans or picks on from your opponents might mess you up if you have a linear resume

    - beginner unfriendly

    - no garantuee how good your fellow players are with the champion they put up (only general skill level trough mmr/division)

    - matching bands might take longer

    - finding a band with a niche champion might take longer (however, once you have found them they will likely be more appreciative!)

    - costs a lot of work, time and money to realise

    conclusion and personal opinion

if the system would be implemented i expect to see a shift from "a couple games" to more dedicated sessions with bands. i  feel that the champion market fills the gap of "social place" where everyone just clutters up and hangs around. also i expect that that you will become stronger friends with a band you've worked together with as a whole then when finding a friendly individual. another thing i would love to see would be the increase in coordination. not just in this game but in the next game to! bandleaders might grow more experienced over time, and contribute to a better lol experience

what ive proposed here is very big, and not without its own deficits. however, most of these cons are about technical dificulties. the remaining cons are in my opinion far overshadowed by the advantage of the system: playing lol the way you like it

any feedback on my post? suggestions? weak spots i overlooked? feel free to comment. my response will be somewhat slow (exams coming up), but i will look trough them regularily this weekend and the week after that
