  • posted a message on Bruiser Diana/Top lane Diana viable?

So I saw a post about Diana recently, and it just made me think of a question that went on and on in my head before. Do you think Diana could be played successfully as a bruiser, more specifically, in the top lane? I, as a top lane main, have always wondered if she could work this way and still be useful.

What I see most Nidalee's doing is switching to cougar form and spamming all their skills (considering they take no mana, it's completely fine) for the damage, instead of just sitting back and chucking spears. And yeah, from my several experiences from Akali, one pink is enough to hard counter her. Even if she's super fed, if the team is strong enough to at least take her down, they can probably win the fight.

Is Garen really all that good in S3? I don't like using him because I feel like a Darius with less utility and killing power.

Yeah, I've heard a lot about Elise from my friends. In my experiences from laning against Elise and Singed, they're highly annoying. But Singed is just less annoying early game, while Elise is just annoying throughout the game.

Will probably list them by tier of skill I have with them.

Ones I'm good with: Darius, Garen, Shen, Vladimir, Olaf, Rumble, Wu Kong (free week only though, never got chance to buy him)

Ones I'm decently good with, or have some degree of skill with: Irelia, Dr. Mundo, Jarvan IV (top lane only so far), Jax (Top lane only), Kennen, Rengar (top and jungle), Xin Zhao (free week only, both top and jungle), and Trundle (free week only, jungle only)

Ones I'm terrible with, or do not have much skill with: Jayce (can't seem to get the hang of him, I suck with skill shots so), and Riven.

    Pretty sure that's it.

Also, I remember the only time I tried doing jungle Hecarim (was my first time jungling, did terribly but was hilarious), I just ghosted, e'd, and ulted into the entire enemy team. I felt like a Rammus but with phantom dancer...

Thanks for the responses guys! Really appreciate it. About Xin Zhao, Jarvan IV, and Vi, yeah, aren't they pretty much the holy trinity of jungling right now? I plan to buy xin zhao soon, as I already own jarvan. I'm a horrible jarvan though, because I sometimes click too slowly, and mess up my combo :p I'm somewhat new to jungling, so could you also give a list of some good beginner junglers? I haven't gotten the chance to try out maokai on the last time he was free (which makes me really sad.) Sigh, tried Cho'Gath a while back. While I love his kit and everything, I'm terrible at hitting his rupture. I always feel like it's so easy to dodge, same thing when I'm going against a Cho'Gath.

Also, looking for some more top laner mentions. May be a bit hard though, because I know there are a lot of hard counters up at top, (aka teemo vs. any melee or garen vs. everyone.)

Will list the top laners/junglers I have soon. I do have a good bunch of them, but I want to know if I missed anyone who's really strong right now.

Edit: Guess it also helps to mention that I love gap closers, and that skill shot cc's like Mundo's Q, I suck at hitting.

Hi, so I've been level 30 for quite a while now, and I'm planning to begin doing ranked soon. However, the lanes I'm most effective at is top and jungle, somewhat of mid and support, but that's not the point. What champions are my must haves for top and jungle?

That early jungle is horrible, I can jungle Garen twice as easily, at the exchange of ganking, and Garen doesn't jungle easily.

However, I've always loved how Rengar jungles, it's just really solid and fun.  Unfortunately, nobody else seems to care about Rengar right now.

    garen jungles very easily.

if you go machete->spirit stone->double dorans blade->ie+cleaver->the usual hp stacking crap, you win.

Not to mention, garen gank w/ red on a mid is gg mid.

Naaah, Garen has some problems compared to the big leagues.  Garen's Spin will clear the small Wraiths at 1 no problem, but it takes forever just to kill the Blue one.  The golem buff's are another time waster, and Garen's passive eats all the stat-value for Health regen, so his Regen sucks without it up and running.  They could at least lower the timer on it for Jungle monsters, 8 seconds is a lot!  But while his ganking is weak, as you said simply Spin to win that mid lane, hell, flash and Justice.  Garen with a Sightstone = Wards for everybody always forever.

Back to the Rengar topic.  Rengar was totally at his best when he was released.  He had a ton of bugs that really hurt his ability to do anything, and the suggested "half/half" build was quite iffy.   However, that first bug fix kinda, brought him over the edge.  Originally his passive would fail to work if you're already too close to them, even if they leave the brush with a flash or something. His auto's would stop if you used any ability, so constant clicking to attack was needed.  You couldn't move when you Roared, and his Ultimate was his one saving grace, if you knew how to use it.

Give them a week, let all the bugs be fixed, and BAMN, you have a powerful ganker, a great theme, and over-strong utility, mobility, scaling, and burst.

That last nerf to his Ultimate however, that ruined the majority of the fun I had with him.   His ability to go invisible and "see" the players around worked enough like Tf's ult, but silently, that it was just a blast to use. Now the duration is too short to properly make use of outside of max Teeth stacks.  His Q's cooldown was long, now it's absurd and unwieldy.  His Roar had the healing, defenses, and sustain kicked out, it's just a cool looking /Taunt now.   His powerful E's still powerful, but if you wanted a CC just play Twisted Fate, he has a strong stun instead of a situational root.   Oh god the Ultimate duration, they could at least let the sight stay for the full duration, ever jump an Evelynn only to see her go from 100% to 20% followed by "invisible" again?   Better to use that ultimate to give your team perma Vision on those guys, THEN leap.

Yeah, the only reason you want to play Rengar, is if you want to know what it's like to see enemy champions while Nocturne ults.  It's pretty cool.

Oh god, I remember that before all the Rengar nerfs, he was bursting everyone down within .5 - 1 second(s), and healing it all back in a few seconds. Not only was his burst absurd, but it was impossible to kill him. He needed nerfs, but jeez, his ultimate nerf was too much. It ruins his role as, "The Pridestalker." From lion to kitty cat, Riot, you have done well.

I'd only ever build pure damage on Rengar if I'm severely fed. Given his nerfs, he doesn't even snowball all that easily anymore. A lot of other laners can easily beat him at top, even if he has a kill on them :/ I really dislike how his bursting potential is gone (I find double q too risky, and would be better just to double w then q.)

Thanks a ton guys! Your replies have really helped. (assassin rengar is dead :( ) But yeah, I really appreciate it!

I usually do build Rengar as a tanky oriented, cdr jungler now. The most damage I get being a Wriggles + bonetooth necklace. I do feel like he does not need to be built as an assassin to be useful, because his ganks post-6 are amazing. Pre 6 I do find his jungling to be tricky. Decent clear time and good sustain, empowered e when ganking practically guarantees a kill unless they have a load of blinks (Ez, Kat, Jax, Lee Sin, I'm talking about you! *smashes face on desk*). Definitely would not call him a top tier jungler though. Also, Spirit Visage is amazing on him. Always heal never die. Face roll and right click then proceed to win.

Screw assassin Rengar, "My name is Phreak, and I like to play Rengar as Olaf."
