  • posted a message on getting more out of your allies

Recently I returned to LoL after not playing for the entireity of 2012.  With my rating starting from scratch I had the misfortune of suffering a string of dced allies during my first 20 rated matches and ended up very deep in elo hell.  noob stomping everygame was fun at first for the novelty, but has quickly become very boring,

    thus begins the grinnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd

After about 50 matches in my rating had gone up a little bit, but process was agonizingly slow.  Despite averaging roughly 10 kills a game and 3 deaths counting support my winrate still hovered around 50%. (It still does seem that my allies DC about 3X as often as opponents GRRRRRR, i guess is just bad luck but the sample size is getting rather large on this one :((( )  The message here is that if I want to get my rating up my winrate will have to be closer to 80-90% than 60-70%.  For some perspective here, I had been rated as high as 2149, and was dominating the 1300s as one might expect, but I simply couldn't get my elo to advance at an acceptable rate.

Recently however, I found what I think is the ticket out of my predicament!  What one needs to do is, suggest to your allies that the team group up as 5 for objectives such as dragon as early and as often as possible.  Start during champ select.  Remind your teammates that at this elo, games are autowin if one team just groups up as 5.   During the game, if you see a game situation where split pushing is the best option; don't.  If you split push one of your teammates will invariably be an idiot and get picked off for no good reason.  At low elo people are not good enough to not engage.  Generally low elo players are inpatient and really just want to fight enemy champions. Do not expect them to play defensively. They will get bored and just engage 3v5, 4v5 etc after 15 seconds of poking.  Throughout the game, continue to reiterate the message to your allies about grouping up as 5.  I suggest every minute or so, or, as much as you can without getting muted or pissing off anyone inordinately.  In any given game you should be saying something along the lines of "we stay as 5 we win" about 20-30 times.  Do not worry too much about pissing people off.  Other competant players will not be annoyed;  rather they will appreciate your action to prevent your silly allies from getting themselves picked off constantly.

I have been doing this for about 10 games now and feel that as a result of my leadership (nagging) my teammates have been consistently outperforming my opponents in the midgame and lategame.  They still manage to make a right mess out of the laning phase most of the time, but that is probably unavoidable.
