Map Update: More Twisted for Your Treeline
Roit has just posted more information on the updated Twisted Treeline map. Read below to see all the information, as well as our super quick video just showing off the most basic design of the map.
Since the release of Twisted Treeline, weve been paying close attention to your feedback on the map. While many of you are pretty passionate about 3v3 League of Legends, youve also shared thoughts on where theres room for improvement. We want your 3v3 experience to be as fun as possible, so were launching a new, Beta version of Twisted Treeline in the next patch that reflects many of your suggestions. Still, theres more we can learn from you, so be sure to continue posting your Beta feedback to the Twisted Treeline forums.
Heres a rundown of major changes youll see on the new Twisted Treeline:
- More Viable Team Comps
- An Improved Jungle
- Shorter Game Length
- New Neutral Objectives
More Viable Team Comps
On the original version of Twisted Treeline, bruisers and blink champs reigned supreme. In the new version, we wanted to open the playing field to a greater roster of viable champions. To do this, we updated the item shop with a new arsenal, removing some of the heavier tank items intended for use in 5v5 matchups. We also added some brand new items aimed specifically at roles that have traditionally struggled on Treeline. These new items should make beefier champions easier to take down with a team of three and help beef up their more fragile counterparts.
To help you chase down champions with blink abilities, we also made some adjustments to the terrain. We broke up some of the longer walls, creating shorter chase paths for running down enemies that dive over a barrier with a movement spell. We also thickened some of the remaining walls to make them more difficult to blink over. Itll be much more difficult for champions like Ezreal or Shaco to cut and run when you have them cornered. An Improved Jungle
Because the monster camps on the original Twisted Treeline are randomized, a player could potentially find himself facing an extremely difficult jungle route simply by luck of the draw. This pushed players toward selecting only the heartiest of Level 1 junglers to ensure that they get off to a good start. Moreover, the vast majority of the jungle was situated in the upper half of the map, which could complicate effective ganking of the bottom lane.
To improve on this, we removed most of the upper jungle, leaving only the lair of the boss monster above top lane. We then placed three reliable monster camps on either side of the map to open the playing field to new junglers. This focuses the action toward the center, where junglers can easily threaten the champions laning on either side of them. To make things even more treacherous, we removed Sight and Vision Wards from the item shop and created more openings from the jungle into the two lanes to promote aggressive ambushing no more warding the middle and laning gank-free at bot!
Shorter Game Length
While many games of the original Twisted Treeline were shorter than your average matchup on Summoners Rift, some turtle strategies could really drag out a match. A losing team could very easily dig in at the natural choke point near their inhibitor turret, and could drag super minions into the shrine turret once their inhibitors were down.
To make Treeline games finish faster, we widened the two entrances to each base so that sieges are easier to break. We then moved the Summoner Platform further back into the base and placed a wall around it to keep the laser beams off the minions. This should shave some time off your next victory on Twisted Treeline by helping you kick in the door on a team thats turtling in their base.
New Neutral Objectives
One of the main attractions of Twisted Treeline is high-intensity gameplay focused on ganks and team fights. So to keep the aggression flowing, we decided to add some brand new mechanics. First, there are now altars in the jungle on either side of the map. These altars are captured by proximity, and offer a team-wide buff once captured. Capturing your opponents altar to steal the buff from them should lead to more of those frenetic, jungle team fights that are hallmark of Treeline.
Weve also replaced Ebonmaw with Vilemaw a horrifying giant spider boss that lurks above top lane. This is a dynamic new encounter more akin to taking down Baron Nashor than the old Dragon fight, and will net your team a global buff and hefty chunk of gold.
If youre new to 3v3, we hope these changes will inspire you to bring your favorite champions to a new battlefield. On the other hand, if youre currently a hardcore Treeline player we hope this update brings you even more of the things you love about 3v3. Were about to enter Beta, and we want you to continue helping us improve 3v3 combat in League of Legends. Were committed to making Twisted Treeline into the best experience it can be, and have a Design team specifically dedicated to supporting and iterating on the new map. Were not happy until youre happy, so keep your feedback coming!
Remember to leave us your comments in the Twisted Treeline forums.
More on Honor and Crests
Over the past day or so there have been a few good posts about Honor and Crests. Check below to see all the info rounded up:
Here's a secret, the base Honors (Friendly, Teamwork, Helpful, Honorable Opponent) are not 1:1 with the Crests of Honor.
There's the Crest of Honor - Honorable Opponent that many have unlocked and yes, you just need Honorable Opponent Honors to unlock that. However, the other Crests are not so simple...
In fact, has anyone figured out what the other Crests are even called? That might give you a clue about how to earn them.
I recently earned the Honorable opponent badge, but I can't see it anywhere. Only my enemies are able to see it?
Next patch, you and your teammates will be able to see Honorable Opponent Crests too.
Picking what Crest you wish to display
For the time being, there are no plans to allow players to choose which Crest they'd like to show. For now, the most 'rare' Crest on the server you are on will be the one that is displayed.
We may re-visit this in the future, but currently about 4% of players that have received some Honor have unlocked the Crest of Honor - Honorable Opponent. About 1-2% have unlocked one of the others. The number of players that have unlocked multiple are very, very few so congrats on the accomplishment!
When we're further along planning for the next phase of the Honor Initiative we'll keep a close eye on the data and see if we need to add features to either select a Crest of your choice, or display them all.
Champion & Skin Sale: The Party Continues
Do you feel that chill, summoner? That shivering sensation up and down your spine, inching ever-closer to your still beating heart? That is the feeling of running out of chips for our dead mans party. Id gallop over to the shop and retrieve new party provisions, but the damned are still arriving and Ive been hitched to the door post to greet new guests.
More figures begin to appear in the distance, breaking through the dense fog. The party fervor has consumed them, compelling them to dine on delicious dips and cocktail concoctions.
- Perhaps our gracious host, Yorick, can head out to restock our diminishing party supplies. After all, it is his party! We may both swear allegiance to the Shadow Isles, but I shall be his pack mule no longer! 487 RP
- And if he believes that heading out in his Undertaker Yorick getup will help alleviate our lack of snacks, it will only serve to frighten the shopkeeper. 487 RP
More guests are arriving! I do hope Yorick returns quickly
- Aaaah, Mordekaiser. A dear acquaintance. We may not always get along, but our time spent rampaging across the Fields of Justice chills my heart in the best ways possible. 487 RP
- And that Lord Mordekaiser costume is perfectly fitting. Even more imposing than usual. 487 RP
- Evelynn, I almost didnt see you arrive. Make your presence to the party known! There are many who wish to speak with you regarding your particular talents. 292 RP
- Ah, I see youll have no problem getting the partys attention with your Shadow Evelynn attire. Carry on, then. 260 RP
These haunting party prices will only last from October 23 to October 26, or until Yorick returns with more supplies for his gathering. I fear that this might take a while. Visibility is quite limited among the mists that shroud of the Shadow Isles
Shadow Isles Skin Poll Revisited Legacy or Permanent?
Hippalus has made a followup poll to the one he made a few days ago. Make sure to check it out and give a vote in the thread.
This is a follow up to the poll a couple days ago on Shadow Isles and Harrowing skins. Based on the evolving results since the first poll was called final, we have taken steps this weekend to ensure we can make a last minute change to the skin plan if the results warrant.
We have decided to repost a simpler version of the poll to address only the question that is now inconclusive from the first poll. Given that the 3 Harrowing skins will be legacy and will be removed from the store on November 13 (eligible for return in the future), should the Shadow Isle skins also be legacy or should they stay in the store after the Harrowing holiday? The skins in question are:
Headless Hecarim
Haunted Maokai
Underworld Twisted Fate
The poll will be posted on NA, EUW, EUNE, and BR and the results will be tabulated at the end of Monday.

More on Summoner Icon Rewards
Hi all Ive heard your concerns with the summoner icon rewards and wanted to communicate more on the background of why these icons were created.
We have plans to provide players with permanent summoner icon rewards for many different things over the next several months, including lifetime RP purchases as well as good behavior in game. The Shadow Isles summoner icons were specifically designed to reward players for participating in the Shadow Isles and the Harrowing offerings, with some of the icons being extremely rare for those who provide the greatest amount of support. However, I understand the frustration of those who feel they havent been rewarded for past RP purchases, or for other contributions such as being a great player in-game, but I can assure you, it is coming.
Also, players have raised the fair point that under the current plan they will not even be rewarded for buying Shadow Isles or Harrowing content with RP that they had purchased prior to October, and I agree that doesnt really capture the spirit of the promotion. Therefore, a few days after the end of the promotion, we will retroactively grant Shadow Isles icons to players if the RP spent from October 1 November 13 is greater than the RP purchased during that time and qualfies them for an additional tier of rewards.

Posted 10/23/2012 7:26:18 AMSweeper cost was 1,870 before the change. It's 435 gold, one Amplifier Tome cheaper.
Data retrieval failed to see it, because last patch they updated the server but not the client, so the item cost issues got borked a bit.

Posted 10/22/2012 10:16:32 PMCould someone explain this to me from the 'more on summoner icon rewards' section?
Does it mean that their will be even more summoner icons AFTER the October 1 - November 13 period for those who SPEND more than they've bought, or will it be the same rewards? Could someone link me to the Red post?
I'm not even cute.
