Small PBE Patch
Update 4: The Udyr change looks to have just been a tooltip change, as the ingame tooltip and ability have not been changed at all.
This new item that was added looks to possibly play with the "Hidden Functionalities" of Poros that we reported.

Was going to wait off on this, until w/e it was tied to was actually released. However, for those interested, there is a "mysterious" line:
Weve made an improvement to the gold popup for last hits. Previously if you got a last hit against a target you couldnt see due to things like fog of war or stealth you wouldnt see the gold popup for the last hit. Now when this happens you will get one above your character.
This should also fix the bug where Pulsefire Ezreal would occasionally not see gold popups for some of his last hits on targets in plain view.
Feel free to post your feedback on this change or any issues that you see.
If you missed the news yesterday, a new icon crediting system hit the PBE for testing. There was some confusion about how this would be used on live, and BlueFire hits the forums giving some information on the subject.
As long as they're fresh new icons. Don't bring back those!
We don't have any current plans for re-using these icons. It is purely for testing purposes.
Alright, I'll be testing this as much as I can with the time I have! I'll get one of the Urfs, and then swap over to the one I really want, the non-Urf! *Weird?!*
Thanks! My favorite is the mask icon. That is why I chose to use it along with the urfs.
Why not bot and custom?
We feel like it will be more meaningful to earn wins against fellow players in a more equal "match made" setting. Also some technical implications make it a better choice.
Will this go live?
Not this exact test. We may or may not see something similar on live, you know how the PBE is.
Can we get these icons now? Cause i dont mid testing it out!
im keen for the mask icon
The three icons you have to win with are default icons. You should already have them. But good catch I'll update the thread to make that more clear (I don't even have all the default icons memorized).
what if we already own all of the icons we can earn already? is there some sort of higher tier for those players? or do we just lose out because we gifted something to a friend?
This is not going to manifest itself in the exact same way for live. Since these icons were never used on the PBE server, I chose to use them for testing purposes.
One thing to bear in mind with the Journal of Justice articles is that they're not a lore summary, but instead written from the perspective and understanding of people in the game world itself. If those in game characters writing the JoJ articles have been mislead about something (like a deception planned out over centuries for example) then their reports on it won't be able to outline the absolute facts because they themselves don't know them.
Wow, they finally found a use for the "skill shot you can teleport to" with Lissandra!
We've been looking for the kit to put that on since the beginning. I'm glad we could here
Who designed her? I've been playing since Karma release and I've never been more excited for a new champion than I am now.
Meddler (Ziggs, Varus and Syndra's designer) worked on Lissandra.
Like I been saying. I do not see this was a recon. Only her buying her time and tricking Ashe.
Exactly. Lissandra's been planning this for a long, long time. Fooling the Herald was no problem with how long she's been biding her time.
Wondering. If you teleport to the claw does it stop or does it keep going, possibly allowing you to teleport to it multiple times?
Only once - it consumes the missile when you teleport.
Oh, you're online and posting? Can you or some other Rioters take the time to respond to how terrible the reception for new Trundle is in his thread and across the forums? It'd be super appreciated by a lot of people I'm sure
I'm actually home sick today, but I know those guys are talking about it.
I'll never be able to find the thread. But a game designer at Riot (possible Morello) led us to believe that this type of skill just wasn't working/couldn't work as a satisfying skill. Something about if its slow it doesn't work as a damaging ability and if its fast then it loses everything cool about what the ability did (jumping to the projectile) over it just being a damaging blink.
I'm curious what makes this ability work here? What were the challenges you faced in placing this ability? I know the team (Meddler specifically) has been looking for a place for this ability since before December 2011 (source: http://euw.leagueoflegends.com/board...609497#5609497)
I'd have to see the original thread for that - it is a tough skill because it needs to be on a kit that wants you to get close, but not so much you only use it as a gap-closer. Lissandra is squishy, but has PBAOE abilities - this allows it to feel really natural without pigeon-holing it into a gap-closer.
While your at it please look into Lissandra being renamed; she's not Lissandra, I'd rather her be dead in development than become this hammerheaded excuse of the Ice Queen from Narnia.
She is Lissandra. That's all there is to it.
Because **** lore and thematic elements right?
No, because you want them to remain shallow because of a Journal of Justice post from years ago that was intended to hint at it, not be the bible on the Freljord. In your mind, there only correct way to do this character is a staunch and strict adherence to exactly what was present before.
We even developed Lissandra on that basis, making it so that stuff was still true. So, I think your approach would do more harm to lore and thematics than actually developing Lissandra as something that completes the Civil War in Freljord, and offering her as something more than a third snow-based female character who is only human.
So, you can disagree, you can be dissatisfied - unfortunately, someone always will be when we create something because everyone has different sets of expectations, but don't act like your dissatisfaction is representative of good world-building, character development, or the playerbase at large.
The peace agreement still happened. If you look at this post, you'll see that she is still "allied" with Ashe, but with sinister undertones. My guess is that she made the alliance to throw people off, and guarantee herself some privacy. If she's allied with Ashe, then Ashe won't be trying to send people to meddle with her affairs and possibly recruit her; Ashe would be more likely to let her be, I feel. And since she doesn't have to worry about too many people poking around, she can still do as she pleases in the background.
It's kind of like the German alliance with Russia in WWII, if you ask me. They signed a peace treaty, but Germany continued to do whatever it wanted... which later included marching on Russia. They just wanted to have the treaty to buy themselves time to set up for all that, and I suspect that Lissandra has a similar motivation.
I'm also unsure about the timeline here. But I'm thinking perhaps the JoJ was written when Lissandra's "ancestor" (the Ice Witch) was still alive, before the Ice Witch killed Lissandra and took her place, pretending like her previous form died of old age.
The JoJ is written from the perspective of the reporters. They report on world events as they see them, which in the case of Lissandra included buying into her public face as an ally of Ashe.
Lissandra has ruled the Frostguard tribe for centuries. For example, her last persona was Mauvole, the previous leader of the tribe. She took on the persona of Lissandra, the Ice Dervish as the latest step in her deception.
More lore on Lissandra and the Freljord is coming soon! Watch PBE.
@RiotWenceslaus or anyone @RIOT Does the black ice come up to meet where she is walking (like Kassadin's void worms) or do they just float weirdly around her like Taric? Also can items that slow activate the passive?
EDIT: Her look just gives me the chills. Ugly and frightful in a beautiful kind of way.
Rather than being static, we wanted to make these crystals a morphing element that was both part of her and something she moved through. It's sort of like an elemental extension of her dress. As such, the crystals in the front roll around her to the back and are replaced by new crystals as she moves. I don't think there's anything else in LoL that behaves quite like this and I hope you like the effect.
As to the passive question, I am unsure... would have to consult a designer.
Mauvole, the previous leader of Lissandra's tribe. Which is why Lissandra was next in line.
To quote from her story, "When her human form grew old, she faked her own death and then murdered her successor to steal her identity." This is the same progression with Mauvole and Lissandra. 1. Mauvole (the Ice Witch in disguise) was the leader. 2. The Ice Witch faked Mauvole's death (even though Mauvole has actually been dead for some time), and murders Lissandra, taking Lissandra's place instead. 3. Lissandra (now the Ice Witch) is next in line, and assumes control of the throne.
Is it me or you're aggressive today?
Apologies - rereading it I agree it's pretty aggro. Likely the medication talking (which is a good sign to not be posting now!)
My point stands, though, of adherence to the tradition as the primary focus has the tradeoff of a much less in-depth (or interesting-looking!) background and lore. That's really what I want people to walk away with from that.
I've really hard to read it like that already but that leaves the gaping plot hole of WHY this deception? The new Lissandra would get nothing out of the alliance and crowing Ashe as queen. And after all this deception why would she join the League and reveal everything?
The new lore better have a convincing fix to this epic plothole or in my mind there always will be the beautiful, blonde, Lissandra, the Ice Dervish who brought peace to Freljord.
As stated in her lore, she engages in deception to prepare the world for the return of the Frozen Watchers.
You ask why would Lissandra swear fealty to Ashe? Quoting the JOJ "she stunned her new subjects as she swore fealty to another of the three Princesses of Freljord: Ashe, the Frost Archer". The reasons for Lissandra swearing loyalty to Ashe have always been a mystery. By reading through the lore we've released so far, and some of our upcoming Freljord lore, you may be able to unravel this mystery....
When she is competing in the League of Legends she is always in the form of The Ice Witch. In this way, she is able to maintain her deception. This is why she doesn't take human form in game.
Was Mauvole a descendant of one of the Three Sisters, too, or was Mauvole's heir the first actual descendant? Or does she have any relation at all to the Three Sisters?
Is Lissandra one of the original three? Or did she kill one of the original three and then take her identity?
As I understood it, Avarosa, "Bella", and "Celia" (names for example) were the Three Sisters; Avarosa has Ashe as her descendant, Sejuani is descended from Bella, and Lissandra was descended from Celia. Did the Ice Witch murder Celia and take her identity, or did she enter at a later point?
I'm confused about lineage now, and this is very important for...reasons.
These are some very cool questions but answering them right now would spoil some soon to be released lore, so instead I will encourage you to hang in for that lore.
More information on the original three sisters is forthcoming soon including the names of all three of the sisters. Up until now only Avarosa has been named.
wwhooooaaa Riot why the Arctic love all of the sudden D:
Me being Canadian is totally just a coincidence.... :X
Kitae : Will we learn «Lissandra»'s real name?
TBH I'm kinda disappointed you didn't name the Ice Witch with her REAL name and instead call her Lissandra The Ice Witch. It only serves to further confuse people (you had to explain that no one makes a connection between the Witch and the Frostguard leader while Lissandra is on SR).
Lissandra is the Ice Witch, the Ice Witch is Lissandra. The fact that they are one and the same is a secret.
While she has used many faces and many names in the past, like Mauvole, but for the first time since her transformation long ago she is using her own face and her own name. Why has she reclaimed her human form? Why now? That has yet to be revealed.
I like this. Lissandra didn't set her sights on the Frostguard until after she worked as seers/elders to wipe away the history of the Watchers- a task that would presumably span across all of the Freljord tribes. I don't like that Sejuani's 'will to live' was so revitalized by someone telling her that she was 'destined' to be great, but I also don't live in a society that puts any weight on seers' credibility. It would be interesting if it was done just to rile up conflict in the Freljord.
Unfortunately, Sejuani's experience with the seer(s) of her tribe was probably too recent and would conflict with Lissandra's time ruling the Frostguard tribe. She might have time to still masquerade and disrupt the other tribes now and then, though.
I can confirm that....that was something we thought you guys might speculate on :O
Are any of this future lore info cover the astonishing lack of relevance of Volibear and Tryndamere? they where not even mention once, and one is the leader of the Ursine, a powerful ally of Ashe faction and the other is the freaking king of Freiljord and the sole reason why Ashe have any meaningful relevance since his barbarian army are like half of Ashe faction populace.
Honestly there just isn't time for Quinn to visit all the leaders and important people in the Freljord. We haven't forgotten the mighty Ursine, or the angry barbarian king Tryndamere, or any of the other Freljord champs.
For what I can understand the thing is that we (players) know that she is Lissandra but in the league she is only registered as "the ice witch" sorta Clark Kent = Superman thingy
If you are saying what I think you are saying(she is named Lissandra because the being who, in the distant past, became the Ice Witch was named Lissandra) then that went right over my head as I read the lore.
The bio stands alone as a story. By that I mean, if you hand the bio to someone who doesn't know all the details of Freljord lore they are going to read it and it will make sense.
For example, if you read just her bio you're not going to ask "is her real name Lissandra", you are going to take it at face value as being her name. Those sorts of questions occur when you look at broader lore and try to figure out exactly how it all pieces together.
As bios are usually the first documents anyone reads, we make sure they stand alone. This also means that we won't include every detail on the champion. We focus on what makes for a good stand alone story.
With that said, this is a case where many players had their first exposure to Lissandra through the JoJ. Accordingly, it is totally understandable that you're asking these questions and I am answering what I feel I can answer without spoiling upcoming lore.
3. If this is going along the same lines as Shadow Isles THEN NO ****ING THANKS! Oh hey there is this giant badass spider god that your NEVER GOING TO SEE! I wish you would stop alluding to these really powerful creatures that we will never actually see. Kog Maw's dad, Spider God(especially if Vilemaw is an underling), and now the "watchers"
Vilemaw is the Spider God. Yes he's killable in game, but if he deathtouched you when you went into his lair that wouldn't make for good gameplay! All of our bosses (Nashor, Vilemaw) are more powerful in Lore than they are in game.
We are actually trying to do less of the "all powerful dudes you will never see in game" thing, thus we're focusing more on champion conflicts like Rengar vs Kha'zix over NPC conflicts like Caitlyn vs C.
Malphite. btw, why does she want to freeze the world? .... Sounds like Brand again but instead he wants to burn the world -or like Cho who wants to eat the world... idk, the stories are getting a bit - unoriginal and lacking depth.
Together they will steam the world and when it's fully cooked, Cho will eat it. Delicious.
So just wondering, do you plan on making some Freljord inspired skins like the ones for the Shadow Isles?
Riot has posted all the information for the Summer Challenger Tournament. Make sure to check it out here.
Champion & skin sale: Pentapress conference
*tap* Is this thing on? Hey, wait who are these people? Uh ladies and gentlemen of the press, I'm here to read a statement:
Over the course of the last few months we've received a record number of complaints from parents, politicians and most world leaders. Apparently mainstream media outlets are claiming Pentakill is "single-handedly responsible for the moral decline of Runeterra" and "contributing to the delinquency of today's youth."
I'm here to assure you we're going to stop using words like: #$&*, %&$^, @#$, *%&^, #%&$#%$^&, mother#$%^@&, #$%clown, #$%@^!&, %$^#face, $%#^lips, %$^#head, !%@^$&#, @&#&*$*@, %^$&^$%&, $%#^head, @#$%wad, ^*%&, #%^!slapper, $^%&-in-a-box, horse$%#^ or !@#$%^&*^#&@%^!%^@$#%$^#@%!^$^.
They also asked us to apologize to a few people in particular:
- Ahri, we're sorry you got thrown out of the after party with that crowd of groupies. I mean, if we had known you were actually a soul-sucking fox-demon, we'd never have done something like that. Call me. 487 RP
- Rumble, we regret that our rabid fans ripped your war machine apart after it shorted out on that exposed wiring backstage. Even though it was pretty %&*^ of you not to take responsibility. The resulting electrical fire did some serious damage to our set, and probably killed a few roadies. 440 RP
- I apologize for throwing you off the stage into the crowd, Kassadin. I mean, I figured you'd be fine. They always catch me when I stage dive, and there's no way I could have known your Rift Walk was on cooldown. 395 RP
- We're also sorry that we kicked you out when you showed up backstage as Pre-Void Kassadin. We have standards, and you just aren't metal enough without the mask. 487 RP
- We know we shouldn't have fired you from our security force, Karate Kennen, but the martial arts thing you've got going on doesn't seem to intimidate people in light of your abridged stature. Besides, you were always building up static electricity and interfering with the electronics. 260 RP
- We're sorry we decided to build our new recording studio in the Ionian mountains, Traditional Lee Sin. In retrospect, recording a death metal album right outside of a monastery was probably inconsiderate. We were just looking for some more organic reverb. 260 RP
#^%ing $#^@! What the @#$% did I just read? Who the !@%& wrote this %&$*ing speech? I mean, apologizing? We don't $^%&ing apologize. For @#^$'s sake, do they !@%#ing think we're Death Cab for Corki or something? This is metal how the hell am I even supposed to write lyrics if I can't say @%#^? That doesn't make any #%$#ing sense!
