Team Builder Update: Captain Role Only If You Bring A Friend Along

We hope everyone has been enjoying Team Builder so far; we’ve been closely monitoring the system and are currently seeing that there are too many Captains, and not enough Solo players available. Although about 95% of players are having queue times of 5-10 minutes or less (even doing unorthodox or creative comps!), this means that 5% of players are having unacceptable queue times. Players who are high MMR or low MMR tend to see these problems more frequently, and players who play during off-peak hours see this problem as well.

In light of this data, we’re going to try an experiment in Team Builder. Starting today, players have to invite at least 1 friend to their group to become a Captain. This should greatly improve the Captain-to-Solo ratio, and reduce queue times overall in Team Builder.
While this experiment is running, we’ll be working on a feature to show Solo players what teams are currently looking for to fill their teams. See you in Team Builder,
So let me get this straight. The point of the system is to find other players willing to run a nonmeta team comp. In order to use the system, you have to, on your own, find one other player willing to run your nonmeta team comp.
WHAT IS  THE POINT
Right now, we're seeing way too many Captains--there are already too many trying to find other players to run a non-meta team comp.

This is an experiment to see if we can greatly improve queue times and the experience, and if it doesn't work it's a simple switch off and we'll try something else.
i see what direction you was going with this, but this is only gonna make team builder horrible. most people who play are on when friends are asleep or at work, so inviting doesnt work.
If you are solo, you can still play by joining other teams.
This is an experiment, we want to see how this affects queue times and match quality. If this is positive across the board, then we'll keep this flow. If we see some huge red flags, we'll go back to the drawing board.
We expect that the average queue times will go down for every Captain and Solo, so this isn't just to help the 5%.

done. get excited!

(i think i got this in time for 4.5 but i'm not 100% sure)
Well make sure it applies to all champions then, not just Jinx. Please
yeah, we were just talking about that. i did this jinx one to see how it was hooked up, but this is really something i'd like to see done at a systems level instead of as a set of champ-specific solutions. i'm going to talk to our engineers and see if we can get something in within the near future. :3

If you signed contract in which you agreed to not do such thing  and you are still doing them then you aren't very clever - it's their problem. Second thing is that political corectness is ruling many aspects of social life which isn't good either.

so they have to pay fucking 500$ for using words in a videogame? people are such pussies, jesus christ

  • #41 Rewenger

Random player will just get banned. Exemplary LCS-tier players are competitive face of LoL, so they got it stricter.

  • #42 Gilgamarsh

They do the same thing for professional athletes so why not?

  • #43 yoshiwaan

    Completely agree. Totally unacceptable behaviour.

  • #46 McJix

First of all, Riot wants to control the image of LoL. In doing so, they want the general public to not think that LoL's player-base is populated by racist, bigoted thirteen year olds. Even if it seems like a harsh punishment to some, it is sending a message that this kind of talk -- even in jest -- is not appropriate.

Secondly, I tend to find that people who have the mindset of "It's just words! Grow a thicker skin" are the ones causing the problem.

So, anyone else smell a rat (or manatee) in the announcement about mystery skins from April 1 -> 4?

  • #33 TheBulldog35

I dont think, they do aprilfool jokes, when money is involved. even through riot points.

Well, aside from Urf Warwick, and several other Urf related skins. And Lee Sin, the Blind Monk.

  • #34 OfficialPhrozen

I swear, watch every single self gift you use get you some new Urf skin.

  • #21 gogoshica123

If they fined me for every  racist/offensive/mean word I said in 3 years of LoL,they'd have enough money to get USA out of debt.

  • #22 klocugh12

You are not a pro player, so you'd just get banned.

  • #27 habesjn

I don't think they care about curse words. Everyone in America cusses. The N word is really the only word that is still off limits in our society.

  • #18 raikaria

On the note that isn't the finings: Every Team Bilder game will now have a premade and 3 randoms.

Yeeeep. A queue where you're forced to deal with premades. Riot you dun goofed.

  • #25 Nakhan

I am very disappointed in this change. I prefer to host/choose who I group with.  But I don't always want/have someone to group with.  I dislike this change.

  • #12 XiXiS

As a that type of violation, they got fined heavily :|

Racism? I'd say they're lucky they were not booted out altogether. That should be zero-tolerance.

  • #19 XiXiS

Since I haven't seen what they have written in there, I can't tell much. Maybe you're right, they are lucky for not received heaver punishment.

  • #20 AAmras

There were mentioning including N-words, Jews, etc.
Anyways, they were framed for that one, but yeah, they should have known better, really stupid of them.

  • #40 OfficialPhrozen

It was really bad, tbh.  Tons of racism.
