Okay Riot, before you take the wrong approach at nerfing Zyra...

  • She is too strong at support, I completely agree. She does too much damage early game as a support and overall is just a complete bully in lane. However, nerfing her as a support would also be a direct nerf to her as a mage, which is what she was originally designed for.

    What do you do?

First, nerf her base damage, but give her ratios a slight boost. This will help mitigate some of that burst she is capable of doing as a support.

Second, her plants scale with levels we know this. However, in order to bring this in line she should keep her plants scaling with her level, but the level of her Q and E decide the damage cap. What I mean by this is say we have a level 9 Zyra. Right now the way her plants scale is like this:

    26 + (6 × level)

So at level 9 she would have 62 damage on her plants. However, make it so that if she maxed E first, then her E would have the 62 damage, while her Q would still rest around 32 damage assuming she had only put 1 point in it. As she leveled further the damage on her Thorn Spitters would remain constant until she put a point in it while the damage on her Vine Lashers would still continue to scale off of her level. While this would be a slight nerf to Zyra at mid, it would definitely help bring her in line as a support.

Alternatively, the scaling per level could be reduced while the ratios get increased so as to not nerf mid Zyra as hard. As another alternative, the plants could scale off of skill level alone and have their ratios tweaked accordingly to not impact mid Zyra as hard once again.

Also I will say that her snare is a bit ridiculous at mid as well as bot, change it so that the snare lasts
.5 /.75 /1 /1.25 /1.5 seconds and increase the CD by 2 seconds while upping the mana costs by 10 per level. Maybe reduce the range from 1100 to 1050 as well.

Just my two cents on the matter. I love Zyra, but she's kind of broken as a support and I feel that her snare is just a little too good at mid. As much as I'd hate to say it, she needs a nerf.

Good post - I generally agree. We're going to talk about this more after preseason starts, but interesting suggestions.
