Lightbringer (OP updated)

  • Let's talk about this item. How often is it purchased? How is its buildup? What would be the ramifications if it were removed?

    UPDATE: I'm going to pull over Grez's Spectral Lantern from Twisted Treeline for 1.72. This and Lightbringer will co-exist for a patch; we'll see how it plays out. Eventually, we may do something like make Lightbringer build out of Grez's so it has the active.

    The buildup of 1.72 Grez's Spectral Lantern is slightly different. It'll be S3 Vamp Scepter (800 gold) + Cloth Armor + 150 recipe.

    It's dropped Madred's Razors. I'm very heavily leaning towards Grez upgrading into Lightbrighter right now--not sure whether to keep the persistent vision passive though.

    Second, again, the passive counters several champions passively, just for having the item, several champions abilities are made instantly useless. An aa's isn't an easy thing to avoid, especially in the cluster fights in dom. I feel that passive countering with almost no chance of counterplay, still is and will be, a very bad idea.

    It isn't the same thing as the grievous wound items, healing still does work, at a reduced rate, this item for no reason than aa'ing someone, causes all stealth to instantly be useless, for a rather long duration.
    That's why this is being done, actually; to potentially replace/remove the passive eventually.

    I think lightbringer should be removed. As an avid Wukong bot player, light bringer is a terribly op item. Think of it on vayne, nuff said. But on other AD's it is still op, AS is a really good stat, and that item lets you be on stealth characters and it destroys the fundamentals of the aspect. Grez's Lantern is an item that allows more skill to make that item good, but at the same time it is balanced. At the same time it lets AD's get a sight of the top bush above windmill. I see no disadvantages of the Lantern, but I see more problems with Light Bringer on a lot of Ad champs.

    Also I think thornmail should be removed from dominion since it got removed from TT. I think a weaker item should be introduced, but that is your job, i like the thought of a cheap armor item.
    I think Thornmail has some valid applications on Dominion, and its "best case use" scenario isn't nearly as atrocious on Dominion as it is on Twisted Treeline, so I'm in no rush to remove it. However, long-term, I do want to add a replacement for it on Twisted Treeline that adds more counterplay, so it may eventually make it over to Dominion as well.
