Zyra's Plants

  • Just wondering why Zyra's plants don't target and auto attack champions when they come into range, is it by design or is it something they just haven't fixed. Just a little bit of an annoyance.
  • Good question. Zyra's plants will not automatically prioritize enemy champions over minions. They will, however, target enemy champions she has launched a basic attack against.

Next patch (a couple weeks), I will be adding a self-only particle for Zyra so that she can see the unit her plants are targeting, which will hopefully make learning this gameplay easier, since the re-target in response to a basic attack will be clearer.

This is two to four weeks out. Shockingly, I don't believe we can actually fix this issue without tech, due to how our spell queueing system works.

As to Zyra being played as a support:

Morello, Coronach and I always envisioned her as a champion capable of excelling in either role. We have consistently used her as a support in our internal playtests since she was released. We have similarly seen teams running Lux and Morgana bottom lane in recent competitive events, which I think actually spices up the scene. In the end, however, Zyra's strength bottom lane is best judged by our Live Design team in light of season 3's
changes to Summoner's Rift's itemization and passive income stream.

Again, I am not the best person to answer questions like these. I believe that Roku, one of our best minds for mage balance has written on this subject in the past.

However, I will say that you are greatly exaggerating the weakness of champions like Janna, Soraka, and Lulu in solo lanes. Each offers substantial utility to their team when itemized with greater gold access. To the extent these champion's have seen their solo laning power diminished, it was not to drive them out of those lanes, but rather to bring them in line with our other mages. Taking Janna as an example, her kit's total AP ratio is actually very high, especially when considering that shields are enhanced by mitigation.
