I'm sorry if my title is confusing, I am thinking about changing it on the forums. As an animation engineer, I do not make animations. I program animation technology (and other stuff to support champion and skin development, but my specialty is animation tech). What is that you ask? I'm glad you asked! One small example of some of the things I've done is for Zed, one of our talented animators wanted the Q animation to continue on the upper body if you start running after using it. The problem was it didn't stop the run animation if you stopped moving until the Q animation finished. He pointed this out and I corrected the animation system to properly handle that case.
But Griftrix, if you're not a designer why do you keep posting in threads that talk about design?
That's another good question. I try to rarely post my opinions on balance and design (they are only opinions and not a Riot official stance). I post in threads like that to try to facilitate meaningful discussion by the players in the community who are much more experienced with these champions than myself.

Why yes I do. I had not lifted in about 6 months after I moved (was doing 200x5 on bench press then), but now I am back to lifting 2-3 times a week. We have a gym with showers I can walk to during lunch that's in our building complex. I am back to about 85% of my old numbers and making gains very quickly.
So...if Riot ever decides on making a champion with the ability to auto-attack while moving without it looking awkward, you're the one to make it happen?
Yes. It's totally up to the designers. I am not the only one who could make it happen though, we have some awesome dudes in the group I'm a part of, including the legendary Wiksy, who is in fact a wizzard, space pope, and genie.

Why'd you pick that name?
Grifter was filtered by Everquest name filter as being an -er word (verb). I had made a noam mage and thought Griftrix sounded magey. When the Sullon Zek pvp server started I made an ogre shadowknight there and killed literally thousands of people. Then I found out the name is never taken, so it worked for me.
Thank you Griftrix. You have the power to facilitate meaningful discussion too just because your name is red. Sadly at the same time people tend to misunderstand that your opinions are yours and not that of the company unless stated! Thanks again!

I think he creates the technology and interface tools that allow the actual designers to create the animations since you cannot just take an animation and put it in the game engine.
Could I ask what software you use so I could get a better idea of exactly what you do?

The animators use Maya. I use visual studio. You are totally correct in what I do, but MOST of the animation tech we have was already in place before I started.
But Griftrix, if you're not a designer, can you give your opinions on giving your opinions on design? This seems disingenuous and makes it seem like it's riot's official stance that giving your opinions on giving your opinions is that it's okay, when obviously, sometimes it's not.
Welcome to the forums! Don't get frustrated by us forum goers. I, for one, love the fact that a) rioters love the game and b) they want to share that love. Lots of times we get a new rioter posting a ton on the forums . . . and then they get discouraged by the deliberate obtuseness and stop doing it. (@Vesh: where are you?)
