I'm pointing out an obvious abuse of their system.
This thread is supposed to be a place where you publish potential abuses. I'm doing that.
An abuse like this means that the gifting system needs to have some sort of restriction on it. Possibly making it so that you can't use the gifting system until level 10 or so would stymie any abuses under the idea which I expressed.
There will be some restrictions in place to aide with this sort of thing, but we're still defining them. I absolutely want to hear about potential exploits/abuse of the gifting system.
Not being able to see what stuff my friend already owns makes things annoying.
This is something we wanted to make happen, but won't do with this release of Gifting. There's a lot of reasons behind it. We've done our best to make the existing experience surrounding this as good as it can be for now.
I think a possible idea for limiting abuse would to be make the required level to gift higher, maybe 10 or something.
This way if people want to "abuse" the system, they actually have to work for it. Though of course level 10+ players should be allowed to gift to their under 10 friends, and help them get on their feet.
We've got a good bit of control over how the system works. For PBE, we want as much testing as possible - we'll be more strict once we hit live.

Phreak and I have a relationship that mostly involves running high-fives in hallways.
As far as the reasons - they're varied. Some are technical, some are (believe it or not) player focused. It's not something we'll change for this release, but it's definitely on our minds.
Can you explain how the Gift RP works? I hope is tied to the RP you own and not fresh purchases each time, i would like to buy, let say 5000RP and the gift "X" amount to my friends.
In the interest of making it less enticing to hack people's accounts, you have to buy RP through the gift center to gift it.

Only Champions and Skins that are currently in the store. As others here have mentioned, there isn't any trading of content at the moment. We may visit that in the future.
I am unable to gift anything. I have tried to do it once before and it worked fine. Now after i tried it looks like its working but then nothing happens. It shows the working screen and then nothing happens and im back at the finalize screen. If i try to gift a champion that the recipient already has then it will tell me that they already have it and not go through. I have tried with both champions and skins and tried to gift to different people.
this happened right after i tried to join a custom game that didnt start and i tried logging off and back on between the tries.
Edit: It started working again after i bought something else from the store.
Your session might have expired. Reloading the store should fix it - did you have the store/client open for a long time before you tried?
