Deck the Lanes with Gingerbread Contest

  • Ah, it’s that very special time of year when we celebrate the holidays by making everything look edible. We set out sugar plums, candy canes, and even the air smells of apple cider and chocolate.

Why is that? What is the appeal of making festive holiday iconography into food? It’s not like a gingerbread Teemo would make any sense...

    Oh wait...

Your challenge: Make a League of Legends-themed gingerbread sculpture!

Whether you have actual gingerbread or nothing but graham crackers and gumdrops, we bet you can make a Trinity Force faster than Phreak can say “Tons of Damage!” Gather your sugar and sweets and make us a scrumptious sculpture fit for the League, then snap a couple pictures and send it in!

Here are some rules for you:

    • The submission must include gingerbread, graham crackers, or Christmas cookies and must be entirely edible
    • It must display a League of Legends theme, whether a champion, map, item or lore
    • Submit 2 1280x720 pictures of your entry as .jpg or .png
    • One of the pictures must include your summoner name physically written in icing, next to the submission
    • This must be YOUR submission that you created yourself! Googling “LoL gingerbread house” doesn’t count
    • The entry must be made specifically for this contest! Don’t use anything you made or submitted to us before
    • You can collaborate with as many people as you want, but only three will be credited for each submission

Submit your creations to the Deck the Lanes Gingerbread Contest here.

    For official rules, click here.

We’ll be picking our favorites and letting the fans vote for theirs, too!

All of our winners will receive a coveted Teemo Hat and all of this year’s Snowdown skins!

The top ten winners, chosen by Riot and the fans, get a bonus of a Malzahar and Blitzcrank hoodie, as well as every Snowdown skin in League of Legends! That means Snow Bunny Nidalee, Happy Elf Teemo, Santa Gragas, and more. ’Tis the season of giving, after all!

Enter before midnight on January 2 by sending your pictures through this link (woobox.com) and get cookin’! Your delicious design could earn you delightful additions to your digital wardrobe!

Yes, they also get the champions if they don't already have them!

I have a feeling that a fake graham cracker will look worse and be more expensive than a real one, but we can contact people on an individual basis if we feel their entries are not quite genuine foodstuffs.

The focus is on using gingerbread and cookies, so it'd be wise to use them as a primary ingredient... but I'm down for some creativity.

Artistic and creative skill, yes. Contests are often focused on creative individuals who can express themselves wonderfully in a medium of their choice. We're always hoping to expand our contest repertoire so if you have any ideas for contests that you feel would work well for Riot, I'd love to hear them!

The name people see when you play games
  • Let me preface that, possibly, graham crackers are the answer to everything ever.

You can use other materials, but it should primarily BE gingerbread or be in a gingerbread style. You know, those gingerbread houses? Yeah them!

Yes, you have to visibly have gingerbread, graham crackers or cookies in the creation, and bonus points if it's the focus of the submission. If it is not visible, it is not eligible.

And, I'll get to eat it afterwards!
Fun is job #1 when it comes to contests! Whether you win or lose, we want you to enjoy the process.

I agree, we do try to introduce those contests in with the bunch, a way for people to prove their love of League! It's a little more challenging to make an engaging and bombastic contest that isn't focused on artistry, but it's definitely something we take into account and want to do more often, especially via Twitter and Facebook where it is easy to share your entries with others. If you have any other ideas, tweet 'em to me anytime! I'm excited to get more ideas in the mix.

Two pictures of one entry, so we can pick the best looking of the bunch. If you do 2 entries, submit 2 pictures of each.

The prizes will be split between the winning participants, so you'd have to call dibs on that Snow Bunny Nidalee or Snowmerdinger amongst your friends.

    Thanks. :-)
One of the necessary ingredients is perfect. And yes, add both to the list!

It depends on how many entries we get from all the territories. We'll consider prizing each region separately if enough entries come in from each.

You can use store-bought items like candy and cookies, I know not everyone is a good baker, but if you can modify items then you're set for the contest!

Include them primarily, but you can add other things as well.

For Europe, we allowed the use of cookies as material, so long as it is in the style of a gingerbread house.

For example lights from the Christmas tree
3: If we want to work togheter, but we participate separatedly (3 different house, but all made together), than will we get all the prices separatedly if we win?
You can use some metal wire for structure but when it comes to decor, I'd suggest only using edible items.
In terms of participation, you should probably submit all entries as a group, but the prizes will be split between you if your submission wins.

I can neither confirm nor deny the community's reaction to a Teemo that is living, well, and downright dapper. That's the gamble you take. He is a contentious personality and you picked the wild card.
    Good luck, friend. Good. Luck.
