You're asking for not a scythe as a weapon, but more a scythe-fighter - someone who would use it more like Zasalamel from SC4 than a death caster, correct?
I think this is a cool idea - we've explored this a bit, but nothing that hits it out of the park yet. It's a pretty distinct weapon, we just need to find a character to make sure it delivers on that fighting style.
I felt similar about axes - Sion already had an axe, but Darius actually hits you with it.
Have you ever read the graphic novel BONE, Morello? There's a character in there that uses a Scythe, and they are THE character that I think of when people start talking about Scythes. The best part is that they're far from stereotypical.
Also, the Dervish from Guild Wars 1 was excellent.
I haven't read bone, but yes - I think the scythe speaks to some elements that "just flow" properly. Dervish animations in GW1 are fantastic for this.
It's tougher in League because we don't have long windups unless there's a specific exception to do so. It's not undoable, but the character will have to pull a lot of weight to do right (and I think anything less will be disappointing).
Have you guys tried something akin to Guild Wars's Dervish?
Actually, one of the first prototypes I was involved with had this concept. It was "cool", but it was clunky and unresponsive at the time. Something we can probably do better with more technology tools we have today as well as more raw designer horsepower.
Can we get a champion who uses a scythe?
1.) Fiddlesticks uses a sickle, which is different from a scythe, and he doesn't really utilize it outside of crittlesticks
2.) Karthus doesn't really do anything with his scythe, and its only on one of his skins
