I sent 5000 rp to a banned account, because i wanted to surprise a friend but I did not know that the account had been banned. The several warnings in the system were very useful, why did riot not think of a warning that said "sorry you cannot gift to this account because it is banned". I am sure others have a problem with the gifting you can go ahead and keep their money as well.
THEY HAVE FIXED IT RIOT IS SANTA CLAUSE AND HOLIDAY CHEER!!!
The intention of the feature was to spread joy among summoners and not sad faces. As this is a very special case, I have reversed this gift for you and credited it back to your account. I'm sorry for the inconveniences the gifting feature has caused to you!

We fix problems like this on the back end where nobody is ever watching, but it was pure happenstance that I saw this post, and wrote my coworkers about it on their vacations (which I still feel bad about).

Anyway, a bug slipped through in the initial deploy of gifting that prevented your RP gift from showing the recipient's name in your purchase history. We QAed this quite a lot, but again, technology... -__- Misplaced variables, or some **** like that.
The gifts were all going through successfully, they just weren't properly documented by the system. RiotAmes was up 40 hours straight fixing the issue, and making sure the second deploy was successful. We let him sleep for the rest of the week. He's a hero.
Tl;dr - It's fixed, it shows now, RiotAmes rocks.
