Can gangplank still be built as a critcannon?

  • Or is he still ( according to the community ) " FKIN BUILD WARMOGZ OR U R FKIN TROLL NUB U R A TANK *** "
  • Just a bit of conjecture / theorycrafting: Have actually been considering taking him mid.

Generally harder to get ganked. Oranges provide decent sustain and most mids if they go traditional caster will get outpoked if they're skill shot reliant.

Would never take it say vs a ryze or karthus. But against someone like Evelynn, Ori, maybe even katarina? I'd say he stands a fairly decent chance. His mobility should make him a decent roamer and if not you have your ult to back that up. The main challenge will be wave clearer's. But a Hydra should take care of that just fine. Also phys caster gangplank? Toss a muramana ala Ryze style.

just the fact that you can cleanse his DoT is kinda mean for Malz.

Agh, my apologies actually was out of the country for a bit. Are you on atm? Actually patching up here ( been gone that long ). Wanted to try out gangplank mid!
  • true to form just played a game against a good kennen who just wave cleared and roamed. Blind pick makes gangplank sad.

To the gentleman questioning base stats.

    HP values

    GP : 495
    Eve : 414
    Karthus: 390
    Katarina: 395
    Ryze: 360

that and he starts with 54 AD, on par with Renek / Xin / olaf.

Granted his HP scaling isn't fantastic. Will need to practice this more but it could be a fun niche pick.

Agreed. I held on to it for to long. Would've rather gone with another item than hydra in that match up or if I was farther ahead. Likely iceborn to slow down the kennen / vi and instagib the ashe.

Same for Hydra if I recall correctly. ( may be way off ) makes for an interesting splash of gold when you crit a full wave. Scrooge Mcduck would be jealous of bankplank.

The PBE has Executioner's Calling at 20% Crit right now.
Would rather turn that into a Youmou's for the Armor pen to further blow up squishies or Atmog's. With Warmogs, you get to about a BF's sword of Dmg. The armor will help to stay around a little bit longer. Not to mention it's quite gold efficient.

indeed! Not sure why I confused that with QSS. going back to correct.

Yes his mechanics are still strong with oranges and global ult, but his numbers are insanely low, he can´t fight jayce, khazix, darius, or any of the actual top picks on top lane.
You can´t compare his initial hp with mages initial hp, he is a melee.

I would venture that cheaper AD + easier HP/pen is more beneficial to our dear friend GP but I don't have the mind to figure out the itemization atm. I will take a gander at HP though.

Compared originally to common mid's starting HP since the idea I was considering was to take him mid. However, lets take a look at tops! HP + HP /level:

    GP 495 / +81 ( sustain )
    Jayce 420 / +90 ( no sustain)
    Darius 426 / +93 ( no sustain)
    Olaf 441 / +93 (sustain)
    Renekton 426 / +86 (sustain)
    Pantheon 433 / +87 ( no sustain)
    Rengar 435 / + 85 ( sustain)
    Singed 405 / +82 ( sustain)
    Tryndamere 461/ +98 (sustain)
    Lee Sin 428 / + 85 (sustain)
    Kha6 430 / +85 (sustain)

Now granted am not looking at any of the kits. Gp is limited as his poke is his main dmg tool compared to say Khazix. After that poke you got auto's and kiting.

One interesting thing is that GP has a HP advantage ( ever so slightly ) for the first few levels of the game, even against Jayce / Darius. I tend to agree that he has the most difficult time up top. So the idea is take him to a favorable match up. Match his low cooldown nuke vs larger cooldown (usually) champs or low HP/armor champs and I think he'll succeed.

He's definitely not the best pick in all situations, but I think stats is not where his weakness lies, merely the match up vs All-in'ers where he wants a prolonged poke fest or even to force off siege's. It'd be fun to see him in a poke / siege comp.

    Just a few thoughts.
