So... can @Ironstylus actually draw guys?

  • I know he said Quinn was a dude at some point. But just curious, Mr. Parrot, if you have any art you're allowed to share of guys. Mainly cause i already know how you draw women (gorgeously, btw) But all we've ever seen are Leona, Diana, and Quinn.

I've done my share of dudes. Dudes and animorphic animal-dudes when I freelanced for Riot to start. Working at Riot proper, the guys I worked on were Talon, Graves, Varus, and a lot of "iceboxed" or cancelled champions. I've worked on a LOT of creatures too that ended up not being made. Also.. Xerath, whatever the heck he is.

In terms of skins, Pulsefire Ezreal, Steel Legion Garen... also.. whatever the heck Nocturne is.

I've worked on about equal amount of women and men. More men actually, but you haven't seen a lot of them due to either them not being out yet or champions/skins being cancelled/put into storage.

You will. We're evolving here. We're going to say.. "We're giving you this archetype, but we're flipping it on it's head, it's going to be a change, it might ruffle some feathers, but it's going to be unique in it's own way."

When I can, I'll show how she developed. It will provide a lot of context. I guarantee that some people will overwhelmingly want what she was originally. A traditional western fantasy trope. We intentionally moved away from that. We wanted whatever a Demacian falconer would be. That's what she is.

The challenge we face is that we want to embrace archetypes but they will be defined as "League of Legends archetypes. They are going to defy convention and they are going to have to hit notes inherent to the world. Quinn went from wearing really rustic, non-factional clothing, and turned into the most toned down of any Demacian Champions, because Demacians, regardless of functionality, are going to have flair. Her helmet, pauldron, and motif of her cape are examples of that. They are intentional choices to drive home faction and motif. They're hood ornaments and icing.

Just like Jarvan wears a crown into battle, with spiked shoulder pads which would impale him in the face, how Garen wears a scarf that blocks his face and wields a huge one-handed sword, Quinn wears a stylized helmet, has avian motifs worked into her clothing inspired by her companion, and has a bolt firing metal bird gun. That's flavor, that's what Demacia is. Intentionally we didn't tone her down to feel rustic, too lean, or too camouflaged. That's not Demacia. Demacia is in your face, even if it's in a harrier role.
