Jungle Tier List - Jayce Era

Remember that this is largely opinion and it is not based on the best jungle PICKS since that is highly objective and subject to opinion. This list is taking into account the potential of characters to jungle on their own regards to make measuring their capabilities easier.

Tier 1 – Dr. Mundo, Lee Sin, Udyr, Nocturne, Trundle, Maokai, Nautilus, Jarvan IV, Skarner, Alistar, Riven, Olaf, Shyvana, Shen, Malphite, Amumu, Nunu, Cho`Gath

Tier 2 –Warwick, Shaco, Hecarim, Jax, Gangplank, Darius, Master Yi, Sejuani, Tryndamere, Volibear, Rammus, Fiddlesticks, Xin Zhao, Kayle, Wukong

Tier 3 – Jayce, Gragas, Singed, Twitch, Galio, Fizz, Pantheon, Renekton, Rumble, Fiora, Twisted Fate, Janna, Blitzcrank, Kennen, Taric, Sion, Ezreal, Soraka, Karthus, Cassiopeia, Lulu, Ziggs, Leona, Heimerdinger, Brand, Yorick, Eve, Mordekaiser

Tier 4 – Caitlyn, Corki, Veigar, Poppy, Karma, Nasus, Irelia, Malzahar, Draven, Sivir, Akali, Nidalee

Tier 5 – Viktor, Graves, Varus, Orianna, Garen, Ahri, Talon, Annie, Urgot, Kog Maw, Ashe, Sona

For tiers 1 and 2 - the placement is more important towards indicating "who is better" but less so for tier 3. In tier 3, just think of it in brackets as the champions here are more flawed and harder to argue. You can say that the higher tier 3 champions are better than the lower tier 3 though. For Tier 4 and 5 it's pretty much wishy washy.

Some people seem to be getting confused with the ranking. It should be obvious by seeing who gets the S scores that S means higher than A.

S scoring is just some video game thing used to say things like “Oh man you are amazing” etc etc. It’s most commonly used in arcade type games.

The things that have changed this time around

Dr Mundo - He is now number 1. I'm going to start shifting some emphasis on transition (perhaps more so in the next patch) since people have been requesting that. Only a few champions have been changed around this iteration based on that. Also some junglers will also gain points based on "carry" power. Dr Mundo has both over Lee Sin as he will have a better late game and can carry a team better than Lee Sin because of that.

Jarvan IV - Moved down for the same reason Dr Mundo moved up. Jarvan is a lot more difficult to itemize than Nautilus and Maokai and he's very much more reliant on those items. While he's strong in his own right a crippled Jarvan will do far less than a crippled Nautilus and at least Nautilus's ult may not backfire on his own team.

Tryndamere - I've been using him more and yes he too can carry (albeit in his special way) and he can destroy some jungle match ups. His glaring weakness is his first jungle clear, his lack of "true" sustain and his reliance on crit. Still he snowballs out of control naturally and insanely if he gets a bit ahead.

Kayle - Same reason as the others. Her transition gets her points and I would actually say she's a really good early solo queue pick seeing as you can dupe your opponents as to where you may go so they can't counter you. She can transition into a soft-carry from the jungle or a hyper carry if fed - or a support if crippled. So needless to say her transition gained her love.

Singed - Well I got my assed kicked by actual jungle singed players and not just "Oh imma try this" players. I noticed it's still pretty weak in several aspects but it's so farm happy and speeds out of control if left unchecked. Singed then goes Singed mode and never dies so trying to counter him becomes stupid.

Nunu - Oh god they buffed him. I've been banning him in a games now. He's not overpowered but he's so damn annoying. It takes a team to stop him. The buffs didn't really fix his issues if not made his invasion powers a lot stronger. His issues of "the jungle mobs scale and I can't kill them" are still there. He doesn't want to rank up his consume since each rank doesn't really do anything for him and his other abilities will suffer significantly and thus his jungle will be slower. I'm sure some people may be willing to try out a bruiser Nunu that maxes Q and then W and leaves E at one but it doesn't feel right to sacrifice Nunu's ganking tool. He went up because the Visionary change is actually really damn good and his consume being bumped up another 1 damage allows it to one shot early camps again.

Jayce - Well in short order he was super disappointing. He can do some stuff but nothing special and while some say "omg his E is so good to gank with your teammates" well Gangplank already does that but better and easier. Jayce is honestly nothing special in the jungle and he has severe health sustain issues throughout even after his first clear. He does have one big advantage though. He can CARRY the game for his team even from the jungle. Sure the jungle is probably the weakest "lane" for him and sure he gets beat but if you were to get farmed then you can build pure damage and use your range to your advantage. The other jungle carries suffer because they're all melee and will get shattered once they enter a fight but Jayce can just enter ranged mode and pew pew all day.

ALSO NO Nautilus nerfs did not make him bad or anything. I don't know why I got a ton of messages about "OMG NAUTILUS GOING DOWN IN TIER!" Honestly he's probably looking for more nerfs at the moment. As a pick he's too powerful.

What would u change on this tier list, considering a solo queue match? (no communication, unreliable teammates)

I would move lee up on mundo, jax and riven up on a lot.

Thoughts on Zyra Jungle? Her damage output during a Gank is just absolutely insane if the lane you're ganking has CC. her clearing is a bit wonky during the first few levels and she needs a good leash, but she snowballs to the point where she only needs a couple casts to kill a camp instantly.

As for her transition, it isn't the best, but it is far from being the worst either. With her base damage it is quite viable to build her tanky, kind of like Ahri.

Hi Stonewall. I've been a long time lurker of RoG and especially this tier list, and I've noticed that you tend to refer to junglers in groups; such as "carry" junglers, "tank" junglers, and "support" junglers. Some even as a combination of these, such as Kayle, who becomes a carry if she's farmed, but can become a support jungler if she's behind. Would it be possible to at some point explain the jungler sub-types? It may help us to better understand why certain champions are picked more often then others. I'm mostly interested what types of characters tend to be at the top (well, most are tanks anyhow, so that solves that) of the jungle and which types fall flat on their face. P.S. just write a damn article about it.

I think the 3 best solo queue junglers if you want to carry are atm Xin Zhao, Darius or Jax. They are feared at solo queue and generally can stomp noobs easily. Also they are overall great junglers.

Hello everyone. For the first time i can't agree with Stonewall that Mundo is the best jungler. I will compare him with Lee Sin to make it simple. Lee Sin has better ganks, better invasion ( he beats Mundo 1v1 in equal fight), better  sustain, better secure buff's, better mobility and better cc. Now Mundo clear camps faster but lee is moving faster betwein camp's with better sustain  so conclustion is they are both very fast juinglers and  there allmost no difference in speed through the game. Finally we are coming to carry power. Since i think this is the main reason why u set Mundo od frist place is the carry power stat. Both Mundo and Lee can snowball good early  and mid game, but late game they fade. Mundo has better soaking power tnx to his ult and defencive items he makes but still lee sin has better burst dmg, better cc and here i should mention that lee is not ment to be main tank anyway. So as a result of all therse things Lee Sin is far better jungler  and new stat 'carring power' is complex coz it depends on many things but anyway both junglers are not monsters late game like jax for example.

Except Lee Sin is unreliable at all points of the game. Mundos cleavers are an easier ganking tool via simplicity, and late game he can still just poop with the cleaver slow and unkillability. It's this that make Mundo a much stronger pick. While Lee Sin is very strong, he lacks carry power as stated - it's "sort of" like shaco, try and beat the crap out of the other team before 20 minutes and hope for the best.

Anybody ever notice how Swain has never been anywhere on his lists?

  • #28 NicknameMy

    Cuz he sucks at jungling?

  • #33 HumbleSky

Jungle Swain is the new OP.

I sitll thing Alistar should be higher, even with the tiny nerfs. Guaranteed level 2 gank goes a long way.

  • #22 Miyaki

Hey can you pls give me the reasons why Gragas is that low at the moment? I tested him a lot and from what i can say his sustain is pretty high (i start boots+3 and can jungle as long as i want) and his ganks pre 6 became much stronger as his E is double as fast as before it got patched. He may lack some cleartime but i think his 30ad at level one are pretty usefull for that. And even if most people avoid it he can become some strong bruiser due to his 70ad+18% damage reduction and his gapcloser/slow with low cd. Looking forward to get some answers.

Talon still needs to be upgraded in the tier list especially if you are now looking at carry jungles in a new light. Yes he does need the firs 3ish blue buffs or a manaless mid, but his ganks are very powerful and he can counter jungle buffs 6 + very safely with his ult.

Jayce tier 3? I think not...he has a speed boost for himself and for his team, he has massive damage, even when built tank, he can swap between ranged and melee, micro managed chain ability spam, knockback with %HP based damage, a leap to get to the enemies...I have to say he's a very strong jungler and day 1 I was carrying teams with him as my jungler.

    It's as simple as:

*To gank* Swap weapons to speed boost in - If swapped to melee, leap in and knockback. If swapped to range, lay down your speed boost to help your team and throw your Q through it.

If melee, run in front of your opponent and knockback. Swap to ranged and go to town with your burst damage.

If ranged, swap to melee and leap onto your opponent. If I dont have boots, I flash in front of them and knock them back into my team (ONLY IF I KNOW WE CAN GET THE KILL).

My firtst match with jungle Jayce was 12-4-21 with a 20min surrender.

I am an avid fan of trundle, and i play him quite often even in dominion, but i don't get why trundle jungle is rated so high if so many people don't like him. Every time I pick him in solo que someone doubts trundle's abilities.

  • #18 NicknameMy

Because Stonewall is in love with Trundle and overrates him hardcore.

  • #23 Kantuti

Nope, because this is Jungle tier list, not who-doesnt-suck-after-30-minutes tier list. Trundle is a God, everything he does in jungle, is extraordinary.

Why is Nunu below Amumu?  I am looking at your chart and the only place where Amumu is better is the Speed, where it isthe difference between a B and a B+.  Also, why does Nunu only have a B for sustain?  He can get away with boots and pots and be full health.  I have even tried (not intentionally) to not have Quint runes at all and he still ends up fine.  Just would like some explanation as to why Nunu is lower tier 1 as opposed to mid tier 1.  Thanks!

  • #15 NicknameMy

Cuz Mumu has OMG WTF OP ULT!!, while Nunu's ult is easier breakable.

  • #34 HumbleSky

I think because a lot of the charts consideration is purely on jungle presence. He has started to consider teamfights and such, which is why Amumu is probably higher.

you forgot morgana, where is she!
