Jungle Tier List - Pre Season 3 Era

Keep in mind this is not an actual tier list. Season 3 has not come out so this is merely a rough sketch of which junglers seem to show the greater promise. They are not lined up to show who is the best from left to right - they're just pooled into groups. The junglers in higher columns simply show more promise.

1. Skarner, Olaf, Nocturne, Dr. Mundo
2. Maokai, Nunu, Cho Gath, Lee Sin, Jarvan
3. Nautilus, Sejuani, Shyvana, Udyr, Darius, Diana, Fiddlesticks
4. Hecarim, Elise, Trundle, Warwick, Jax, Rengar, Xin Zhao
5. Zed, Kha Zix, Fiora, Cassiopeia, Master Yi, Malzahar
6. Teemo

2. Amumu, Kayle, Shaco
3. Shen, Riven, Malphite, Gangplank
4. Singed, Tryndamere, Wukong, Fizz

Rammus

Just going to talk about a few of them with some more detail. Otherwise watch the video for explanations on more junglers.

Olaf - He's someone who became significantly more powerful with the machete that he actually ends up having better clearing time than before. Aside from an increase in his already godly speed the item changes will likely make a massive impact on him. Bruiser type junglers received a hefty amount of economic items that will help the jungler's early gold deficiencies. That said you also don't mess with a double buffed Olaf in the jungle and considering he's not only faster (and healthier) but the enemy junglers are a bit more messed up - he'll probably have a fun time looking for the enemy junglers.

Maokai - Everyone's favorite plant is basically the same thing. There is basically no need to worry about how effective he still is except if the game evolves around him. The only thing that can make Maokai less effective if the laner meta changes to something that can resist him or the jungle meta changes from beneath him.

Lee Sin - He only got worse enough not to be considered the god of the jungle. He is still very strong but it is going to highly depend on his ability to handle the jungle if he fails a gank. He's not a jungler that can idly farm the jungle. He will suffer whiplash from ganking early and failing because of how worthless the small camps are but he's one of the few junglers who makes quick work of the buff to buff camps. That said he'll be happy just hunting the enemy junglers and trying to murder them like he always has.

Nautilus - If you can believe it he feels a lot better. The machete item increases his damage against camps by a surprising amount and he clears rather quickly even against buff camps. He's still susceptible to being outright murdered by another jungler but hey we'll take what we can get with him.

Udyr - It doesn't feel like he's that much better. Tiger definitely feels stronger thanks to the machete and the new doran's blade but phoenix feels somewhat weaker. I think both forms will be fine though. I don't know if Udyr will make a comeback but I feel that he wont.

Fiddlesticks - He was fine in his first clear for season 2 especially after the dark wind buff. The problem was that the jungle began to scale in a way that he'd end up wasting too much time and mana finishing them all off. Now the new machete items just make sure he maintains his clearing speed. He still is a blue dependant jungler but at least now he's speed/clearing issue has been resolved.

Trundle - He doesn't feel any different and the only way he'd actually see play is if the meta changes. He excels vs teams with little to no tanks but as we all know most teams are chuck full of fatties.

Kayle - From what people have been telling me she has far improved in this jungle tanks to the machete. The other problems still persist in that she's rather flimsy at dueling in the jungle and that her runes have to be tailored for the jungle but she'd be able to fit the semi carry role from the jungle if she can manage it and if she's picked.

Shaco - Surprisingly he got better thanks to his boxes being stupid at buying him time and that now they aren't prone to just messing up and not collecting aggro. This apparently lets him do a buff to buff clear rather easily.

Gangplank - It's weird with him. He didn't get significantly faster (if at all) but his ability to use his parley against monsters improved. The small monsters take just one auto attack and bullet to the head in order to kill them. He can focus the big mob then when his parley is up he attacks the smaller monster and then Qs them to collect the increased gold. The ease in this will make it easier for him to achieve a gold advantage for his opponents and I'm easily excited to see how I can make this work.

Rammus - He got worse if you can believe that. He new jungle, even with a leash, kicked his ass and he cleared it even slower. Then they buffed him and I didn't bother to see if that made any difference.

The only two I have a huge problem with is udyr and hecarim.  Not sure what you see wrong with udyr to put him in tier 3 I haven't seen it done but have you tried phoenix tiger to start?  The new jungle seems made for that start phoenix and at 2 put one in tiger instead of turtle go to wraiths or wolves phoenix phoenix phoenix then switch to tiger and murder the big minion back to phoenix finish camp.  As for hecarim i just don't see how he can be tier for don't have anything in particular to say about that besides he's just to good a champ to be that low his clear is still fine especially with machete has great ganks and got a little buff to make his jungle easier I've seen alot of hecarims recently he facerolls out of jungle now.

    Dear Stonewall

Pls try Poppy in the new jungle and say, what you think about her. With defense masteries i could reach levl 4 with 2 buffs in 3,52 mins and over 90 % health (i am using as marks and ms quints). And if you take 9-0-21 in masteries, the speed is the same but you are only at 50% health at the end. From that on, go for madreds or tankstone and a philo to keep the speed on. Boots and sheen are next. The ganks are awesome with poppy.

What about Renekton? He seems to have a somewhat rocky start - he needs some good assistance taking down the first blue (Which, yes, helps him a lot, as CDR is amazing on him, and allows for more self-healing with Q), and he will end up at fairly low HP for his first clear. But other than that, he could put in some ridiculously strong ganks. Of course, he also relies on getting good ganks. Relying entirely on the jungle for farm doesn't really work well for him.

And the fun thing about his "rocky" start, is this allows him to benefit from his passive for his early clears, although it does make him weak to early-game counter-jungling.

Hmm, I played lately nearly only Yi and it seems to be I win every game. Don't know why but I do. With the incoming buffs, this will be even better.

Sion is quite decent now, machette is amazing on him.

After playing several games with Rammus I found that he can clear decently and become a more brutal force later when it comes down to it, but I don't build his runes and masteries like a normal jungler I run 34 armor in marks seals and quints with 12 magic resist off glyphs and in masteries you can run 0/21/9 (neutral buff duration) or 0/24/6 (just enough in util to get some mana and mana regen). This will allow him to run either machete or cloth quite easily and after his first clear his pace in the jungle reachs acceptable levels, but this requires building a wriggles on him (I know it is unusual, but it helps him clear so much better than the stone and aids him greatly if he starts to fall behind from bad ganks) he is allowed to do this though because of the masteries and runes and likewise because of this it will help boost him into his godmode tank state faster. This is all just an opinion, but if anyone wants to try it out and leave some feedback I'd be more than happy to hear it :). Thank you and have a nice night.

How do you guys run Skarner?  When I was playing as him I was chugging through mana like mad and doing only mediocre damage to the camps which left me empty when it came to teamfights.  His first couple clears were alright but I found that his damage couldn't keep up with the health scaling (and the extra damage meant my shield didn't last as long resulting in lowered damage).

  • #64 Kash

Skarner is really fast to clear but finishes first clear low on health (vs. starting with regrowth pendant, which he could do easily).

I buy the Spirit Stone ASAP (vs. getting philo stone previously) and upgrade it to Ancient Golem (blue stone) which helps with mana a huge deal. I then get the Sightstone because I love wards, but that is up to you.

Also, you shouldn't feel ashamed to get second blue for yourself and only donate 3rd blue onwards. It will give you the mana you need to help all your lanes and clear quickly, including mid-lane. This is a significant difference from S2, so expect some backlash from your mid player. The situation should calm back once you donate 3rd blue and show your helpfulness in getting the team/mid player ahead.

I'm trying to discover the optimal runes/masteries and mid/late game build on Skarner now, so please share any insight =D

    Currently my setup is:

Runes: Move Speed quints, Attack Speed Reds, Armor Yellows and Magic Resist/Level Blues

Masteries: 0/21/9, getting all standard but trying health regen (rather than reduced slow duration). My logic is that Skarner has a great slow and an even better Ultimate to engage but might need the health to be safer/faster in clearing early.

Items (Mid/Late): In addition to "blue stone" and Ruby Sightstone, I get Mobility Boots (as I have tenacity from the blue stone) and Sheen and then Aegis whenever possible. I also buy more pink wards or Oracle to clear for Dragon/Baron.

If you clear the multiple "free" wards from enemy Sightstones, I find that Oracle is still pretty damn good to set up for an objective. The only difference is that you have to re-buy for the next time, so maybe that's not as appealing but dying and losing Oracle feels less aggravating if you've cleared a few wards with it already as you were already going to have to buy another one for the next major objective.

My setup is a little different than this guys. I find machete to be abyssal, it does nothing useful for you till u sink in 2.1k into it.
I've been opening Dorans blade + pot (running 0/9/21) on most junglers (I play mostly hybrid/caster junglers) and starting red first, ganking, then clearing everything till blue.
Go back grab another dorans + a couple pot/wards depending on what I have cash for. Do a full clear, gank, etc..

10 AD on most people is almost the same amount of damage as machete, but also having 80 HP and some sustain.  The upgrades are pretty Meh, unless you're building wriggles.

Machete is crucial on pretty much everything, Skarner included.  It doesn't just boost autoattack damage, it boosts all his damage.  There is no reason whatsoever to build Doran's Blades on any jungler at this point.  You're just crippling your clear speed, and in Skarner's case you're also crippling his mana regen by skipping out on the early Spirit Stone.

Machete is god awful, as well as all it upgrades besides Wriggles. I can find no reason to build it unless I absolutely have to.
Yes it reduces clear speed (slightly, I clocked like a 5-10 sec difference). But you get real stats to help with ganking and dealing with getting invaded, plus sustain.

  • #73 Kash

While I found your suggestion of Doran's blade + pot really interesting, I think it works best perhaps on other champions.

Skarner really benefits from machete because of his Q, which also benefits from it. Skarner also wants to build tanky and the blue stone upgrade gives him everything he wants and allows him to easily build Mobility Boots for better ganks.

  • #74 Felsong

I really depends on who your playing and what build path your doing for. I dont really play a super tanky skarner, so I can get away with it.

  • #61 JunglerinP

I tried darius as a jungler in few games in LIVE and PBE, ans i can just say: WHOOUA.

This guy seems really powerful, he has decent ganks, is able to clean the jungle pretty well, and can fight with many junglers.

In my opinion, he can be a really good jungler s3.

What's u're opinions guys? do u prefer see him as a jungler or a top laner? and why?
