Hello Camarena here with a little PSA for you all!
First off, lets talk about links. Sometimes, there will be links posted in GD that are very useful and safe, others that are clever and funny, some that are scandalous and scary, and a few that make you go "dafuq?". But how are you to know if the link is safe to click? Here are a few steps to go through before clicking a link that you are suspicious about:
Who posted it?
There are many sincere posters here on RoG, and many will NEVER post anything dangerous for your computer. If you see someone with 100+ posts, most likely they are a contributing factor to these forums and are not going to try and sneak something past you. On the other hand, if someone has 2 posts and doesn't have an avatar yet, it may be a sign that this person isn't here for the valuable information and discussions posted.
What does the link look like?
Typically, links that are dangerous will appear either sketchy looking or too good to be true. For example, anything like freerp.com or getfreeriotpoints.com are NOT to be clicked.
There is absolutely NO POSSIBLE WAY to get free RP, and the only way to acquire IP is by PLAYING THE GAME.
What does the poster advertise along with the link?
The Reign of Gaming community sees plenty of posters advertising their youtube channels and skin previews and such, these are safe enough to click on, but let me remind you that Reign of Gaming has its very own youtube channel that covers most patch notes, skin and champion previews, and more. These are all in HD and they do a very nice job.
On a lesser note, some posters will advertise League of Legends mods or hacks. Other then surrendering your account up for an almost automatic ban, these files may be harmful to your computer and could possibly steal your account info.
After seeing way too many threads containing infected links, I thought I'd do the less computer-savvy community a solid and try to help out some of you that may be tempted to click on such links.
