I disagree with you completely. Well, not completely, since the damage you are talking about is actually true, but I definitively do not believe he needs a gank. You said it yourself, his weakness is that he's melee, he's unable to get in there and deal this "outrageous" damage he has and, if he closes the gap onto the enemy, guess what? he also burnt his escape. Master Yi hits like a truck, that's true, but he's not a Jarvan, a Xin, a Vi that can close the gap and soak damage while delivering his, if he gap closes and gets caught by a single CC, he will most likely be blown up to bits.

I believe he's at an "alright" spot right now. He's still viable as a niche pick, when the enemy fails to build a team with CC that can stop him (kind of like Kassadin and some other champs that can snowball), but it hardly deserves a nerf (MAYBE, and this is a big MAYBE) adjust the numbers on his Alpha Strike, but other than that, being Melee, Glass Cannon and give absolutely not a single one way of CCing the opponent (be it a slow, a stun, a silence, SOMETHING) makes me think he shouldn't be nerfed.

J4 has a knock up, Xin has a slow, Vayne has a stun/push, almost every comparison will be like this for Yi.

What I think the problem you have when talking about Yi's abilities and comparing them to other champions is the same mistake I read on the GD QQ's thread by Bronze players, no difference. You cannot simply compare similar abilities without looking at their kit and the champion itself.

If Vayne gets caught, for example, she can go invis and either escape that situation (avoiding point and click stuns) or re-engage after getting better positioning, getting to actually use her tools. Yi, not so much, a point and click CC will keep him in place long enough to burst him and even if it doesn't, vision of him enables other abilities to be casted unlike Vayne. With Corki, you've got the leap and well, the fact that he has range.

Just a small comment, I saw this strategy being used way before the LCS did. I'm not sure if it's a Korean/Chinese strat, but I saw it used to great success during the Latin American Qualifiers. I don't entirely remember the team who used it, but they did quite well with it. They usually ran a mix between Ezreal/Tristana/Vayne in their compositions and they were able to win a few come back games once the late game hit. It was pretty interesting to see.

I'm in silver, and I think this is a really good idea. LoL is strange in that it is played very differently at different levels of play. Because I practice in normals with friends that are in Plat and Diamond, I can tell that they play the game in a way that most silver players won't understand. Even when I know some of the strategies and such used at higher levels, I can't utilize them in solo queue anyways since other silver players have no idea what I want them to do. Sometimes the things that you read on these gold+ forums won't be applicable in a silver level of play anyways. Besides, we just can't WRITE in these forums. We can still read them and try to learn what we can.

I do think it would be a good idea if players below Gold could create said Gold+ forums to get help from more seasoned players, as someone suggested earlier.

This is completely true. I have played on 5 accounts from silver -> platinum and the style of play in every league is different. In lower elo, you need to play more selfishly and less team based. In higher elo, you need to play more team-oriented and sacrifice for the team. Even the champions you play change in viability between elos. Ex. low elo master yi is probably one of the best champions you can play there. High elo master yi is easily countered and less viable.

This is so true lol. I played my way up from Silver I playing nothing else but Master Yi, it was extremely easy to get outrageous scores with him (heck, even in Gold) until I think my MMR started getting higher (a result of me getting stuck at Gold V promotions, had to have 7 promotions before getting IV) in which I usually had a 5-2 record (thanks, clamping). Now, I won't play Yi at all unless the lane opponent picks a champion that makes it extremly easy and obvious that Yi will just destroy them.

Anyways, I also agree with the play style differences, before there would be NO WAY I would be willing to support (unless forced and pushed into it, which rarely happened), now I have no problem playing support, sacrificing some of my selfish behavior and getting a team - oriented environment.

But it isn't - it does no such thing. All it does it guarantee the ELO of the posters. If you wanted to guarantee the quality of the postings have a system that allows people to rate the most helpful responses or pick a subgroup of players who you KNOW have valid and interesting knowledge and get them to agree to answer questions on a semi regular basis. As it stands it does nothing other than alienate the community and narrow the knowledge base available to help people who want it. I approve of the idea, I think if more can be done to help players get the best information then great, I just think this is a particularly bad way to go about achieving that.

It filters it though, instead of looking through 100's of advice from the mix of Unranked/Bronze/Silver players, looking for that X% (which is obviously very small) that actually have any idea what they are actually saying, you now only look at a small number of ideas from people who, generally, will have a better knowledge of the game.

You are kidding Gustaf, just because they are diamond doesn't mean you DON'T have more knowledge than them. There is no reason why there should be always be a correlation between player skill and game knowledge. Player rankings are a composite made up of many things, including mechanical ability, as well as simple time to play the game. This does not guarantee a particular knowledge of the game or the ability to express an argument or thought cogently. Watching the game, studying trends and guides and theorycrating are all things that can add to game knowledge completely independent of playing the game. Honestly I could not agree more with TreeBurrow. This idea is not only bad in principle it also utterly fails to deliver what it is intended to do.

You said it yourself, not always, but I'm pretty sure that if anyone cared to make an analysis using real data, the results would put out that a very significant portion of Gold/Plat/Diamond have more knowledge than Silver/Bronze.

Again, not always, but the %'s would certainly (and easily) side with those of a higher ranking.

Why are people making certain threads gold+ without reason... Sure, if you want to talk about your struggles through the ladder you could make a thread gold+ because only someone gold+ would have had the same experiences as you've had... But seriously, who makes an ADC tier list and makes it Gold+? What does this achieve?

I've played over 3,000 games of LoL... Suddenly I'm not qualified to comment on someone's opinions about my most played Role? Because I've played less Ranked games than he has, but a lot more Normal games? How about we make another sub forum, you need to play at least 2,000 games before posting in there, then watch what happens, THAT forum would be a lot more informative than a gold+ forum would, THAT sub-forum would contain more knowledgeable players...

    /end rant

Not necessarily (and I really doubt it).I have three friends with over 3.5k games each (all of them a mix between normal/dominion/aram). Their knowledge of the game is as vast as my knowledge in rocket engineering (that's absolutely none).  Why is this? Because they all play just to have fun, they don't ever build efficiently, instead opting for fun builds (like Tiamatplank back in the days, AP Ezreal for the lulz, etc, etc).

Something I have read here (and in other forums as well) that bothers me greatly and makes me see how little some people know about the game: "Gold  is no different than Silver" (most of the time coming from people that have never touched Gold). I have spent over 300 games (in S2 and S3) in the Silver range and around the same in Gold. The difference is VERY noticeable (if you are Diamond, they will appear the same, as you are much better than them). I'm currently at Gold IV in my second promotion matches and in no way am I saying I'm good, but while I was at Silver, I could first pick Nasus top and roll without much interaction with my team. I can no longer do that and I have to pick less easy - to - counter champions.

My point, while Ranking =/= Skill in all cases, more often than not it holds true.

I'm a fairly new poster on these forums (I mostly just read some threads and follow some articles) but I'm actually glad and pumped about the Gold+ forums only. There's a reason why I barely ever go to League of Legends GD anymore, and that's because of the amount of....silliness you encounter there. I don't know how many times I engaged in a discussion or argument or even advice with someone just to find out that he either a) Never even played ranked or b) Was bronze/silver. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not saying these are "2nd class citizens" but sometimes, you will see the occasional "X champion is OP because he beat me 1 v 1" train of thought and that gets REALLY annoying. This dies out the higher the rank you go, in my opinion and, since you won't actually be prevented from reading those forums, I really don't see why the bad reaction towards it.

  • posted a message on Why LP Clamping Exists

I think a lot of people understand this, the problem is how incredibly frustrating it is to see wins of +1, +2 and losses of -8, -9. I'll use my example from back when I was at Silver I and subsequently in Gold V. Consider, I understand MMR and LP and what it means to be clamped.

So, I was in Silver I for a LONG (and I mean, A LONG) time. I mostly stayed between 70-90 LP, since I would not really win much more than my losses and I would sometimes fall on those dreaded loss streaks you some times have. Anyways, I eventually made it to 90 LP and I was extremely excited about it, I was finally gonna regain Gold from S2. Well, next 5 games, +1,+1, +2, +2, +2. So, five games and I'm sitting at 98 LP after around 3 1/2 hours of playing (aprox). I play one more game, excited about being close to my promotion, since if I win 1 more, I probably will get +2 and reach 100. Well, I lose, be it because of my own skill or my teammates, I lose the game. Result: -9 LP. So, after around 4 hours and a 5-1 record, my total for the day was -1 LP for a +4 W/L record. Again, I understand clamping, I understand MMR, but that does not makes it any less frustrating to lose 3 1/2 hours of your time because of it. Eventually, I made it out of Silver after having similar records 2 or 3 more times.

Now, we move to Gold V, I'm guessing my MMR was rather high, since for each win on my first 3-4 games I got over 30 LP for each, reaching promotion series on Gold V rather quickly. Sad thing is, your promotion matches are A LOT about luck. Not being matched with other people in promotion is something I don't understand (or at least that it prioritizes this) as I was in my Gold V promotion matches SEVEN times. Yes, I lost SIX promotions at Gold V (never falling behind 90 LP after it though) because I would get afk/ragers on my games. I don't know how I was so unlucky, but I usually dominated the games but it was hard to win with a 4 v 5, etc. etc. you know the drill.

Eventually, I made it to Gold IV and again started earning close to 27 LP per win and I actually feel in my True elo now. But the frustration of the climb is hardly worth it. :/.

Which is why I said 'I'm not saying that hiring and harassment are the same thing'. But I am noting that society distinguishes ACTIONS from IDENTITIES, and in some way says that identities are above reproach in a way that actions are not.

I'm aware, but you cannot tell me that I stand in opposition of equal hiring practices based on that, it's ridiculous to suggest that because I refuse to accept one form of harassment to be worse than another, that I oppose equal hiring practices.

Telling a white, male person to "go kill yourself, you fag" should not be seen as a lesser form of harassment than "fucking bitch, get raped" towards a female. If you want "equality" label it as it is, both are harassment, both are wrong, both should not be accepted and both are just as bad.
