Although it does really suck that certain mage supports are becoming more popular as time goes on. Thresh really doesn't have very many good engagement opportunities against Brand and Velkoz (other than landing your Q and your ADC seizing the opportunity, but that is dependant on what your ADC can accomplish with the given time), ugh....

 Oh no, the support with the overloaded kit is getting some harder matchups...

I mostly ban champs that snowball out of control.

Tryn is fine, just has some hard match ups. You can also make the enemy jungler's life miserable by stealing his jungle once you get to static shyv.

The first couple of times I play a champion I look at some item builds and match-ups. After that I just mix and match. For example I might transition a bit earlier to more armor vs an ap laner if I noticed I have an easy enough time killing him while at the same time I see an AD based enemy become fed. I might also throw in early defensive items and delay an important core item if I feel there wont be time to safely get to the core item.
