I love Wit's End, always have, but BORK is stronger in almost every situation.

Have you considered being nice and supportive? Typing a quick "gj" when a teammate gets a kill? Supporting someone when your other teammates start flaming?

Especially when everyone's on edge at season's end, it's typically easier to win by morale than skill. Don't even try to keep the team positive, just delay the flame war for 5-10 minutes. Because the first team to degenerate into a mass of pissy whiny babies always loses, even with the biggest gold lead.

I'm guessing this is you: http://www.lolking.net/summoner/oce/237252

Don't sweat the trolls, you're doing exactly as well as you should be doing. Your goal should be to win 1 extra game out of every 10, since there's 10 players in every game you're only going to be decisive in a few. Every 20 games you should have 11 wins, 9 losses to climb effectively. If you play 100 games like this, winning 55% of your matches and gaining elo every win, you'll gain 150 elo after 100 games, which should get you ranked up. (elo matters, not lp)

You have played 42 games, of which you've won 23 and lost 19. If you're climbing, after 40 games you should have won 22 and lost 18. It looks to me like you're right on track. Just keep grinding. The grind sucks, I acknowledge that, but that's the way the elo system works; it takes lots of games to approximate your real skill level.

Brand without items won't deal 1000+ damage with just ult as you suggested, that's just nuts...

At level 6 each Brand bounce does 150+80 damage from passive (assuming 1000 max health) which'll take you from 230-1150 damage on ult depending on bounces. Zyra does 180 per target hit on ult, which gives you 180-900 damage. Vel'koz's damage is harder to calculate but if he hits multiple targets he can certainly break 1000 damage with his passive. 1000 damage on ult alone at level 6 for these champs is difficult but certainly possible.

Sry, is late for me but I'll try to do a full response later.

His late game is extremely dangerous because with high CDR and many souls beefing up his armor/AP/flay's passive he get just gets to a point where he's a brick wall with a pseudo-crit.

    Compared to what?

Yes, Thresh might outscale Janna for example but Annie will reach the point where she just deletes people from fights with a single rotation. And the longer the game goes, the higher her burst gets while Thresh just gets tankier. At six items, heck, four items I can't think of many situations where Thresh is stronger than Annie. Yes, I can think of some where the Thresh is preferable but in the vast majority of games I'd prefer another high burst mage to another CC tank. There are very few circumstances where a normal support will outscale a normal mid champion.

Which isn't to say that crowd control or utility or tankiness isn't valuable. It's that the most valuable statistic is damage. Tankiness lets you survive longer to do more damage. Peeling lets your teammate survive longer so they can do more damage. Utility helps your team avoid damage or get a strategic edge to do more damage. To grossly simplify, the team that does more damage wins.

No way can you suggest that "Mid-late game teamfighting is more important than laning" when there're games won by fed Caitlyn's who just shove in and get turrets of every lane because the enemy team doesn't fight.

Mid-late game teamfights are more important because that determines who takes objectives, towers, and ultimately nexuses. Sure, anybody can wreck lane and solo carry but it's far more likely that the team that teamfights better will win the game than one that just focuses on lanes. In my experience, and I presume yours, the game is decided much more by who wins the teamfight around Baron than who won lane.

    Quote from Rickrosee »

Nor do I agree with the the claim, "Teamfighting is strongest when there is either a high damage ADC and a defensive support or a defensive ADC and a high damage support." Since you have cases where a Morgana binding wins a fight or Thresh hook or what have you.

Janna ults win games. Alistar initiations win games. Blitz hooks win games. Every ability, used correctly, can win a game. The question is which ability is more likely to win or contribute to a game. A Morgana ult can win a game; the question is whether it is more likely to win the game than an alternative champion's ult.

When you're optimizing your bot lane for a supposed game, you optimize them for that supposed game. Mercerials vs. Blood Thirster, fighting or not, grouping or not, shoving or not -- everything matters in the supposed game at hand. League isn't so simple.

And how do you decide what the optimal choice is for that game? If you haven't played thousands upon thousands of games you need to theorize whether choice A is better than choice B. What I'm saying is that most support players, when they try to decide on the optimal choice, overvalue defensive choices and undervalue offensive ones. That the peeling ability we traditionally value in supports is less valuable when the ADC has their own peeling abilities and support damage has become more valuable as ADCs have gotten weaker.

(Looking for critiques both of the theory and presentation. Is it clear and easy to understand.)

    Offensive vs Defensive supports

A new strategy for Support picks

    TLDR

When picking a support, your ADC's damage capability is the most important factor in your choice. Not the matchup, not synergies between you and your ADC or the enemy comp. If you have a high damage ADC (Twitch, Kog'Maw) you need a defensive support (Janna, Morgana). If you have a low damage ADC (Caitlyn, Ezreal) then you need a high damage support (Zyra, Vel'koz).

    Why should you read this:

We're seeing lots of AP supports sitting at the edges of the meta: Zyra, Brand, Vel'koz, Annie, Syndra. They've occasionally entered the mainstream meta but they've never fit well into the poke-engage-sustain meta and I've never read a systematic theory of when you should take one and when you shouldn't. This is my attempt.

    Theory:

While a bot lane needs to provide many things the two most important are:

    #1 damage,

    #2 defensive CC (peeling)

Traditionally, the ADC provided the damage and the support provided the peeling. In S4 however the damage potential of ADCs have fallen heavily. At the same time, ADC defensive abilities have stayed constant or improved, with more ADCs having dashes, slows, or the ability to break CC. If ADCs are unable to provide their traditional damage but are able to peel for themselves then an AP damage support should be the optimal pick, providing extra damage. For both ADCs and supports their defensive abilities vary inversely with their damage potential (ie. more defense=less offense).

For example, Morgana and Janna have strong defensive abilities but if they're using them on a Ezreal or a Caitlyn who is in no real danger then those abilities are wasted. Blue Ez, for example, is defensively excellent but deals very little damage. In these situations an AP support who deals high amounts of damage with minimal itemization (Vel'Koz, Brand, Zyra) would be optimal. They can supplement their ADCs low damage and their lack of defensive CC is supplemented by their ADC's defensive abilities.

The simplest way to think about it the damage tradeoff.; how long will it take the ADC to do the extra damage than a Brand or Vel'koz could do in a fight (1000-2000 damage). That would take Ezreal or Caitlyn a long time; it would not take an equivalent Kog'maw very long but the Kog'maw is easily killed. The extra damage the Kog'maw would be able to do is greater than the damage an offensive support could do so a defensive support is ideal

    Differences from the current meta:

The current meta, in my opinion, is focused around highly defensive ADCs and supports. Caiyln, Lucian, Morgana, Thresh, and Braum are the most common picks and they all have strong laning, high safety, and poor scaling into the late game (except Braum, who is kinda OP). This has led to the relatively low impact of bot lane in the game; the current weakness of ADCs in teamfights is widely lamented and the percieved lack of mid-late game impact has led to a heavy focus on strong laning.

AP support lanes sacrfifice laning power for mid and late-game power. Consider a Morgana-Lucian lane vs a Caitlyn-Brand lane. There's no much disagreement that the Morgana-Lucian lane is stronger. It would be reasonable to assume that they would be up by 20-30 cs and a few kills by the end of laning, which would translate to a Sheen or BF Sword on Lucian. Giving the Morgana-Lucian lane that advantage, the Brand-Caitlyn lane will be far, far more powerful in the first dragon fight. Morg's Q is very powerful and her shield is strong and Lucian will be doing 50-100 more damage per second but Brand's ult alone will do 1000+ damage. Brand simply has a much stronger teamfighting kit than Morgana. Morgana does have much stronger defensive abilities but if they don't prevent Lucian's death or cc lock then they're wasted and Lucian is already a very safe ADC. Morgana is only really worthwhile in this situation if her extra defensive cc is enough to save a Lucian who would otherwise have died; if Lucian is in little danger or way too much danger then her abilities have little impact. Brand, conversely, can consistently do lots of damage with no items and sclaes extremely well with only a Liandrys. A Lucian is highly unlikely to make up that damage disparity even with 1000 extra gold from laning; a high damage ADC like Twitch or Kog'Maw has a better chance of overcoming that disparity. Additionally, Brand-Caitlyn will become stronger as the game progresses relative to Morgana-Lucian, since Brand's damage can also scale along with Caitlyns. Therefore, the strongest bot lane in any situation will be either a high damage ADC with a defensive support or a high damage support with a defensive ADC.

    Bottom line:

#1 Mid-late game teamfighting is more important than laning.

#2 Teamfighting is strongest when there is either a high damage ADC and a defensive support or a defensive ADC and a high damage support.

Examples of high damage ADCs: Twitch, Kog'Maw, Jinx

Examples of defensive supports: Braum, Janna, Morgana, Alistar, Lulu

Examples of defensive ADCs: Lucian, Caitlyn, Ezreal, Tristiana

Examples of high damage supports: Zyra, Vel'Koz, Brand, Annie

Urgot's main role in the game is sorta..unclear. He is a ranged dps, with a damage reducing passive, and a armor shredding E + a placeswapping ult that makes him very tanky..for a short while..

Yerp. He was originally designed as an "anti-carry" which isn't a very good concept. I like the "tanky ad" concept but I have no idea how to fit that with his ult, which is thematically awesome.

Honestly, I think the problem is his Q, not the EQQQQ. EQQQ feels very bad but is it really equivalent to Ziggs or Xerath or Nidalee poke? Or even Varus? His Q is problematic because the CD is so low if it scales at all he will have absurd damage to anyone in AA range. If his Q was at all decent he could wreck anyone within 425 range harder than any other character, like a Ryze or Cass with AA's added in.
