As some may or may not have seen, there was a thread with the intention of raising money to buy a tombstone for their stillborn son (I'll post the content in the spoiler below) and we, the moderation, decided to take a stance on this.
Hello everyone.
Few days before last Christmas my wife suddenly went into labor. Our sons due date was 17.4.2015 so he was way too early. The doctors did what they could but everything was simply happening way too fast. Our son was stillborn just few hours after my wife got to the hospital.
He was buried some time ago but because of the harsh winter in Finland the tombstone can't be put in place until spring/summer depending on the weather. Since our families financial situation at the moment is anything but good we decided to seek help from everywhere we possibly could. So we started a fundraiser on a site on the internet and decided to promote it on all the forums we could think of.
Thanks to all who read the text and special thanks to all possible benefactors.
I apologize for all the possible grammar/language mistakes, English isn't my native language.
We deleted the thread since allowing this kind of thread regardless of the story being legit or not, gives green light to all sorts of scams since everybody could just post a sob story and ask for money.
We have nothing against the OP or think they are a scammer and they have our sincerest condolences but we have to look at it from a more objective point of view and therefore deleted the thread to make an example that we do not allow this kind of thread in general.
I'll put to you guys this way: if you pop up out of the blue and start asking for money, that's going to raise some very serious gray flags. You're not automatically a bad person, but anyone just showing up and asking for handouts runs the risk that they're a potential scammer.
We decided that this website shall avoid this gray path. We cannot just allow people to pop up out of the blue and ask for money, legitimate or scam. It'll save on the drama and people won't be vulnerable to potential money scams. This website has a reputation to maintain after all, and the last thing I want to see is this place getting overrun by scams.
I also don't think that a gaming forum is the right place to look for help.
Especially for people who made an account just for that and even if... Let's say you make a thread and ask for money for whatever reason and give us a sob story, it's still very problematic. As said before, allowing any kind of threads like this is pretty much asking for scam spam.
So yeah, I hope people can understand our point of view since we're just trying to protect them from scammers and to avoid spam.

Yeah, otherwise I can link a great copy-pasta about me being a poor mexican pineapple wanting to become the worlds best circus whale or something :^)
I was seriously the only one who saw the title of the old thread and thought it was a joke about getting a tombstone for your silly swimmers and their papery grave?
It did feel kinda serious, what with the proper donation site and all.
But the real fishy part was where they have had it up for 4 months, and they haven't gotten a dollar. That's real suspicious. Either that, or the entire internet is full of jerks.
